MDR Open During Embarkation?

 Share

Recommended Posts

We will be boarding Freedom Of The Seas next Sunday.....WHOO!!! WHOO!!!!

Just wondering if one of the dining rooms will be open for lunch? Trying to avoid the craziness of the Windjammer if at all possible.

Hubby wanted a bit more than pizza or sandwichs at the Cafe Promanade..

Thanks!

Sorry, WindJammer is where you will most likely wind up - not that bad really.

Some folks who are on an extended leg of B2B or more have the option of a MDR lunch, usually around noon.

Not sure if a specialty will be open (for an additional cost) for lunch.

We usually stay at the port 2-3 days before a cruise and board early. Often we're at Windjammer when it opens and it can be relaxing and pleasant then. There are certainly times later that it can be pure chaos and a place to avoid:(

Another, less crowded alternative to windjammer is the cafe promenade where there are light sandwiches and dessert. Also, there is a pizza place on promenade. If you are not among the first on the ship windjammer will be crazy. MDR only open to b2b cruisers and even that is not always done.

Thanks for the replies....we have sailed the Freedom several times and never noticed whether or not the MDR was open on boarding day.

When we sailed in April they were having a huge surprise inspection of some kind and EVERYTHING but the Windjammer was shut down. We were surprised they let passengers onboard with only the Windjammer open. We weren't brave enough that day to get in the middle of all those crazy people.....

We were going to get some sandwiches from the Cafe Promenade but it was almost 3pm before any food available. There were a lot of inspectors all over the place with walkies. All the officers were running around with their walkies as well. It was all quite entertaining to watch.....:D

I think this happens a couple times of year......we just happen to be "lucky" enough to be boarding that day. A lot of people got all upset about it but we just took it in stride and made up for it at dinner.....:D
