mydreamvacation Posted August 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2014 We are going to spend time in Germany after our cruise on the Star next July. We plan on doing two days in Berlin and then two days in Munich before heading back to the states. I can get a nonstop flight to Berlin at 11:00am or 2:50pm. I would prefer to get into Berlin earlier than the second flight but don't want to push my luck. My original plan was to do Munich first but the earliest flight is not until 2:35pm and it is further to Munich so I think CPH-BER-MUN would make more sense. We are in a suite and are platinum so we would have priority disembarkation but I don't know how seamless it will be departing from CPH- we do inter-Europe flights often in Italy but I think going from Denmark to Germany I need to have more leeway time wise. The flights are so inexpensive I am half tempted to buy a ticket for both the 11:00am flight and the 2:50 so if I missed the 11 I would already have a ticket but that is probably just wasteful. Babr Posted August 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2014 There have been a lot of posts here about the problems disembarking at the new terminal, Oceankaj. Having priority disembarkation doesn't matter much if traffic is gridlocked. There is a single lane exiting the port area. A quick search here will give you an idea of what people have encountered. The port authority is well aware of the problem and is working on a solution. At this point, I don't think anyone can say how things will work next year. Just be aware that traffic can be a problem depending on how many ships are in port and how the traffic flow is addressed in the meantime.
mydreamvacation Posted August 30, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted August 30, 2014 Well maybe i will hold off on the tickets to Berlin for now. They are just so cheap i hate to pass it up. Got my long haul finished today. Maybe i will go ahead and buy the 11am tickets while they are only $67 and if closer in that seems impossible buy the later flights. We will be on the NCL Star is there a way to check this far out where she will be disembarking and how many other ships will be in port on 7/23/15? I'm going in a few weeks, and I hope we will not have such issues. certainly one hopes by next July, the ground transport issues will be better sorted out. If I saw correctly on the calendar, you disembark on a Thursday; here's hoping you'll share the port with fewer ships that day. Only $67? for such an appealing ticket prices, I think I would take a gamble and buy the inexpensive tickets, especially since the concierge can escort you off the ship with your luggage early (assuming you can handle your own luggage). I think it is a good gamble. As the cruise approaches, you'll be able to know how many ships, how the ground transport is typically running and maybe names of good private car companies. At that point if you feel the need to book backup tickets, you should still be able to do so.

I think I am going to go ahead and buy the 11:00 tickets. It is an acceptable risk and if the issues are still going on in 10 months I will buy the later ones. Thanks for your help! You might want to ask the concierge if your car mates could be escorted off with you, but I'd imagine the concierge would let a small number walk off with you. diathoney Posted September 5, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 5, 2014 Maybe i will go ahead and buy the 11am tickets while they are only $67 and if closer in that seems impossible buy the later flights. We took the 11am AirBerlin flight to Berlin after our Baltic cruise on the Star last year. We were in a suite and did the self debarkation. We were able to leave the ship earlier than we expected. The taxi line was very short. We made it to the airport in plenty of time!
Danish viking Posted September 5, 2014 #14 Share Posted September 5, 2014 That was last year. The new cruise terminal has experienced some start up problems with regards to the traffic. But from what I understand it the situation is better now but I won´t count on it. :D

If there are problems still this spring I will buy another set of tickets for the later flight. I really wish I had allocated more time post cruise than four days but I will work with gear I have and hopefully still get to see a lot
flexsmom Posted September 11, 2016 #16 Share Posted September 11, 2016 That was last year. The new cruise terminal has experienced some start up problems with regards to the traffic. But from what I understand it the situation is better now but I won´t count on it. :D Hello - sorry to bump an old thread, but was wondering if the traffic situations have resolved themselves from this cruise port in the past couple of years? We are also debating an 11am vs 2:30pm flight post-cruise, and most of the info I've found on recommendations about flights times are the boilerplate "nothing before noon" that seem to be posted for all cruises, or is quite dated info. Thank you!
GradUT Posted September 12, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 12, 2016 We used public transporation to get from Oceankaj to the airport last summer. We did self-debarkation at 7:30 am and using the bus and train, we were at the airport within an hour. By 9:00 am, we were in the waiting area for our 12:20 pm flight. So, if you are willing and able to do self-debarkation and can leave the ship at 7:30 am, using either a taxi or public transporation, you should be at the aiport in time to check in for an 11:00 am flight (but just barely). Are taxis readily available at the cruise port in Copenhagen; I would like to take one to the airport post cruise? Or should I order a car because there aren't very many available? Any help is appreciated :)
GradUT Posted October 16, 2016 #19 Share Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) There were plenty of cabs available when we disembarked at 7:30 am. We met up with friends at the airport who took a cab around 9am. I don't think a lack of cabs is an issue at Oceankaj anymore. Minerva Posted October 17, 2016 #20 Share Posted October 17, 2016 We walked off the Star at 7:10 last month, there were plenty of taxis and we were at the airport by 8:00 for our 11:40 flight.
