lauren0309 Posted September 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2014 I want to surprise a family member with a cruise to Alaska. I am trying to figure out what to wrap in boxes for them to open under the Christmas tree till they get the idea. A small ship is one idea but what else? Anyone have any suggestions? lauren0309 Posted September 9, 2014 Author #2 Share Posted September 9, 2014 I was thinking of maybe buying a small cruise ship ornament. Also wrapping in separate boxes, an eagle, bear, moose, husky? You think he'd get the hint:rolleyes:
Ginnyfyr Posted September 9, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2014 What an amazing gift! I'd go with multiple boxes containing warm gloves, a hat/ear wrap/ear muffs, scarf, maybe a warm fleece jacket, warm socks, binoculars (don't leave home without them if you're going to Alaska!), smoked salmon (Alaska is famous for it!), maybe a Fodor's guide to travelling Alaska? Krazy Kruizers Posted September 9, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2014 Maybe you could a small totem pole? Or a whale?

SightCRR Posted September 9, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2014 We did gold and gold pans from ebay then watched utube videos on how to pan. Then we added painted steel and lead shot without the gold to some Home Depot sand and learned how to pan in a bucket. There is a great video on panning Home Depot sand. "If you want to be the man with gold in your pan just get some Home Depot sand". Then in Juneau we panned for gold in Gold Creek on our own and maybe found one small speck that wasn't added but had a great time. sightcrr

DougH Posted September 9, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2014 Most of the towns tourist bureaus have brochure/travel guides to their city. Why don't you order some as gifts? Or check online for someplace like Tracys Crab Shack in Juneau and either by some little items or a gift card for when you visit?

I would enjoy receiving info on ports and what there is to do to begin planning. http://www.alaskasinsidepassage.com/vacation-guides/
