Do you tip with Cheers?

I totally agree. If you drink 15 drinks you are tipping about 30 cents apiece. How throwing down an extra 15$ a day makes the program not worth it me is mind boggling?? I don't think a lot of people that take advantage of this program are regular going out having cocktails kind of folks. Any bar I go to if you tip 30 cents..good luck getting bartenders attention anytime soon for your second drink.

I meant to say NOT REGULAR GOING OUT HAVING COCKTAILS KIND OF FOLKS.

Ooops

With the new lower price for the 7 day Cheers program including tip you are now tipping the equivalent of about 50 cents a drink assuming you drink about 10 drinks a day on the Cheers program. If you drink more you are tipping less per drink.

If that is acceptable to you, then by all means don't tip more.

I know it is not acceptable to me.

Do we really know how the tips work on Cheers? They run a ticket on every drink served...Do they get 15% from every ticket or from the daily Cheers charge??? We do know that the tips are pooled except for personal tipping.

We always tip a bit extra. For the extra tip we get waiters that remember our name, remember our S&S number, and remember our drink. One night at a deck party a waiter made eye contact from across the pool and held up two fingers. I nodded yes, and he appeared a few minutes later with our drinks Now that is service worth an extra buck or two...

Enjoy your cruise

I always tip $1 per drink once I have reached the "break-even" point. Those that do not deserve to receive a drink with something funny floating in it.

How am I doing them a dis service when it is true.

My problem isn't that you inform people "how it works" it's that you tell people they are stealing if they buy the package. Your gripe should be directed towards how Carnivals administrates its program re: the remuneration of its bar staff, and not towards people who pay for the program in good faith. I never said don'ttip the staff extra, I only said that the guests aren't stealing by buying into the program Carnival sells.

I often tip $5 if I am going to be using the same bartender all night, like in the piano bar.

This sometimes will help them "find out" that you weren't actually at your limit, you had one more, if you catch my drift.

We had this happen on the Dream in the Piano bar, we stayed all night. The Bartender said I was out of drinks on Cheers, so I figured I would call it a night. Then another one appeared, and she said she found one. I was not keeping track, so I don't know if she really did or not.

If for instance each country has a hiring company the individual independently contracts with through Carnival Inc. then those individuals are paid based on their own countries wage scale based on individual contract thereby negating the 15 percent we Americans are used to, i.e.the principle Carnival, pockets the delta and the contracting company the delta between negotiated salary with Carnival. Therefore I usually ask the individual where they are from and basically their contractual agreement negotiated, I then do or do not tip accordingly. All these previous discussions on the topic are truly superficial!

On any cruise there are favorite bartenders and favorite places to hang out.

If I do Cheers (or any comparable package on another cruise line), I know that my tip is included. I'm fine with that.

If I am "hanging out" in one bar more than another, I tend to tip extra. If I get the free drinks in the casino, I ALWAYS tip on each drink because that's not part of the Cheers program.

I stayed on board last week when everyone was sightseeing and the ship was empty. I had Cheers but tipped extra, simply because the poor bartender had no one to serve but me!!

It's always varied on every cruise.........

I never said anyone is "stealing" but if they don't tip after the fifth drink they are in fact shorting the servers.

Carnival is, not the guests that bought Cheers. That's the distinction I'm trying to get across.

I LOVE the math you all use, Lets add some more in shall we:

for this example, we will use a standard 6.95 drink The auto tip on the drink is 1.04 So you all think you are shorting the bartender 1.00 per drink. There are 11 bars on the Breeze, Assuming 3 bartenders a day are working there (some are less, some are more, IE 2 people each for 2 10 hour shifts would be 4) PLUS all the bartenders that walk around during the day, we are looking a minimum of 40 bartenders per ship, which means that the shared portion for your bartender, who actually poured the drink is less than 3 cents. Granted, the total loss to the bartending team is 50 cents at 10 drinks, you really aren't shorting the actual bartender more than a penny, which is why most don't seem to care if you have cheers or not, and give such "great" service when you give them 1.00, since they won't have to share it. They Auto added the tips, and shorted MY server .01 if I drink 10 drinks in a day, Not 30 or 50 cents.

I tip Extra for good service, usually about 1.00 a drink, but not for just pouring a drink or grabbing me a beer.

I don't tip extra just based on the $$ amount of what I am drinking/eating anywhere. Tipping is for GOOD/GREAT service, not just because they showed up to work. I tip extra if I am getting the same server giving good++ service. I don't tip every drink, and since I only drink 4-6 through a 24 hour period, I don't feel like I am shorting anyone not tipping every drink. I've already paid 15% on what I've paid.

I worked in tipped service fields for the better part of 20 years. I made more doing that than I do in my corporate job with 4 college degrees. :)

If you only drink 4-6 drinks, then yes you have fully tipped.

But when you add everybodys shorted tips that is a lot of money to the servers. I get it you don't want to think you are being cheap. But if you don't tip after you have reached the fifth drink, you are.

Where do you get your info? And you need to stop name calling. Calling someone cheap or insinuating they are isn't very nice. You must be a tolerant liberal. Anyway, do you have facts or just junk pulled out of somewhere? Where are the numbers of people that don't drink much at all but since Cheers came out they buy and drink? Or the people that buy but don't drink everyday or just a couple? Yes, they're out there. They buy it to not worry about extra costs. Obviously Carnival is tweaking the program and I'm sure their employees are considered. You have opinions and that's fine but if someone has one different than you that should be as good as your opinion. Because opinions are not facts.

Not a lib. And I should not have said cheap but if he is really using the excuse that breaking up each tip by 40 or 50 means he is only not tipping a penny or two to that sever? Well then it is what it is. As too facts? Well if before cheers you paid your 15% auto tip no matter what and you had 10 drinks you would have tipped 10.40. Now on cheers you paid 5.60 in tips up front but don't tip any more because it is "included" now that bartender has lost 4.80 per day per person that doesn't tip extra. It is the persons perogative to and a good rule of thumb would be to tip after the 5th drink (the break even point). But by not tiping what you would have been required to in the past, you are in fact taking money out of their pocket they would have had previously. Thats all.

This is where your math is messed up again. The server is shorted about a 10 cents. ALL servers are shorted 4.80. You tipping extra to the server pouring the drink does nothing for the servers who would have shared the tips. If you would have read my post, I tip for the extra service, not all drinks, but some of them, just as I had always done when the auto tip was on there for every drink. You all brought up the math saying that server is being shorted, but had no clue I'm sure that it was a penny (or less, I'm willing to bet there's more than 50 people sharing that tip).

Lets also consider port days, where some people will only have 2-3 drinks, do they get to credit back the tips of those days to other days.

I love your "excuse" comment, but tipping is a personal choice, I tip well to those that provide good service, I tip fair to those that do fair service, and I still tip those who provide no service other than handing something over.

Do you tip the guy at the liquor store, he in essence has done the same thing that your bartenders do when they hand you a beer and move off to the next person? Since the bartender is getting the full amount of the tip, instead of sharing it, I reserve it for those who give service, thus tipping 10000% over the normal to them. Call me cheap if you want, I really don't care, but why pay 1.00 on all drinks over 5 when that money isn't going to the same pot anyway? If I could add 1.00 on drinks after 5 that would be shared, I would probably do so, but I can't.

The biggest thing this program will do is encourage the bar staff to Earn their tips, instead of simply accepting them. The server may be shorted .01 on the drink, or may make .99 extra per drink. If 3 percent of the people think the server deserves a tip, they've now made double the tips they would have.

Logic is a hard thing to teach, all you can do is try to understand the info, and put yourself in the bartender's shoes. Would you put extra effort into serving people for double the money?
