Rental car to port canaveral

My daughter and her family are possibly cruising out of Port Canaveral in December and are flying into Orlando the day before and want to rent a car to get to the hotel and then the Port the next day. Any advice on the best options? They would be doing the same thing on the return trip.

One suggestion about renting a car....

 

Have the driver drop off the rest of the family and luggage and have them wait in the terminal. The car rental shuttle buses are fairly small and fill up with people and luggage. Finding room for one person with no luggage on the shuttle is much easier than getting a family with numerous pieces of luggage on it (we learned that the hard way).

 

Returning a rental at MCO is the easiest I have ever seen. We drove up, unloaded our bags, were given a receipt and were in the airport in under five minutes.

Avis and Hertz both have dealers very close to the port, and both have shuttles to the pier. I would recommend what the previous poster said about dropping the family off at the pier and then returning the car. Do the same when you get back from the cruise, one person get on the shuttle to the car rental agency, get the car and then return to pick up the family.

We have been using Orlando Town Car Service for 3 years now and they are great. We usually stay in Orlando the night before and they take us from the hotel to pier and then back from the pier to the airport.

George(the owner) and his driver are great. Much cheaper than a rental car.
