Enchantment of the Seas – 4 day Nassau/ Coco Cay

November 3rd

Embarkation was a breeze, in the entrance and on the ship in about 35 minutes. It did help that I was Gold member so plan on 45 minutes. Rooms were not ready until the 1:30 pm posted time. I had an inside cabin, small shower otherwise fine.

Shows and Bands

Shows were average. The singers were very good and added a lot to the production. The comedian was good but it was held in the large theatre so it lost that comedy club atmosphere but still entertaining. I particularly didn’t like the bands. Came off the Sensation a few months ago thinking the same thing so is that the caliper of the three and four day cruise bands or maybe its me. I didn’t see a lot of dancing which firms up my opinion. The pool band was very good. Singer mixed up the usual reggae songs with his own flair. I tried the nightclub one night for the silent dance party. For those who don’t know, they give you headphones. Half are dancing to one song and the other half a different song. No one did much except walk around with the headphones on. I got bored and left.

Food

I thought the dining room food was excellent. Every dish I had was great. Prime rib and tenderloin cooked perfect. Tiger shrimp and turkey were the other dishes and were equally good. I wish I could take those cruise ship rolls home with me. MTD went without a hitch. I traveled solo and had a table for two every night. The buffet at the windjammer was just that, a buffet. Never found one that I liked so I always just grab a little and go. Breakfast in the buffet is like every other ship. It was boring eggs, bacon and sausage, same as every ship. I did try the omelet station but it took a long time. Carnival had like 6 omelets going at the same time. This guy struggled with two and the pan was sticking the whole time. I was disappointed the first day as I went to get the sit down breakfast. We had a bad morning waitress who was messing up all the orders. My omelet, hash browns and corn beef was cold so I never went back.

The Park Café in the solarium was good as some suggested. There was a build your own salad bar, sandwiches, desserts and carved beef and pork sandwiches. I never had the buns but would get slices of meat which was very good.

Cruise Director

He was very entertaining and original. They had the usual daily taped events on the TV at night but he would do his own gigs and they were hilarious.

Ports of Call

The waves were too high to go to Coco Cay so we spent that day at sea. A lot of people who were looking forward to the beach were disappointed but it wasn’t safe. They brought us into Nassau that evening for a couple of reasons and I think the main reason they could tie up and not fight the waves. It wasn’t bad but for those that aren’t used to the motion it made it easier that night. I have been to Nassau a lot of time sand stayed on the ship.

Ship

The ship was in good shape, casino seemed crowded but adequate. Disembarkation a breeze. They have you line up outside which was much better than in the hallways on the Sensation.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I'll be on the next 4-day Enchantment cruise...coming from chilly NYC....I can't wait! When do they make the determination to skip Coco Cay? I hope we make it there. Were the pools crowded? Was the solarium pool roof open most of the time?

I saw a review that mentioned that there were a lot of people smoking in non-smoking areas. Did you observe that as well?

Thanks!

The captain makes the determination when they get there. The problem is that tender boats are not very stable and high waves makes it dangerous for them to go in and out of the channel leading to the docking area.

I never saw the solarium roof open? The sides were open. Never crowded , very quiet.

The other poolds had good crowds but not bad. I was walking on the jogging track and there were plenty of loungers up there.

There was an occasional person having a cig here and there but nothing more than that, casino smoke was rough at times and sometimes non existant

We were on your sailing and had a wonderful time. We had just come off the Freedom cruise the day prior so we had a good chance to compare the two cruises. There were many experiences on the Enchantment that we liked way better than the Freedom. Cruse director, staff, food, overall entertainment to name a few.

We were not surprised to learn that Coco Cay was cancelled. We are frequent cruisers and accept that this happens but I can imagine that first timers or those who do not cruise often are very disappointed.

We arrived at port just as folks were boarding so once we checked in, there was no waiting to board. Staff seemed to be the friendliest we encountered in a while. We went to Chops ( had given up on the Enchamtment Chops after a few disappointments) and were wery pleased.

We spent a bit of time in the casino and were pleased to see the $5 craps. The past few enchantment cruises were the 3 night and the min. was $10. We even had a decent hit on the slots.

The only time we went to the buffet was disembarkation morning, and they had the standard last day layout. A first for me was actually seeing a guy in line in front of me touch/moving a few danish before deciding which one to pick up with his hands. I decided that was a sign that I didn't need one and got out of line, so did the lady behind me.

We got lucky and a few days prior to the cruise, were given a complimentary upgrade from an OV to a balcony. Been a while since we've had a complimentary upgrade so it must be a cold day in ........ :D

All in all, a great cruise.

Regarding when they decide to skip Coco Cay, for us it's usually been within an hour of arriving there. One time they made the decision sometime during the night because we woke up to find ourselves docked in Nassau.

We didn't notice anyone smoking in the non-smoking area.

Actually, I've rarely, if ever, seen the solarium roof open on the Enchantment.

Regarding smoking, we smelled some smoke on the balcony several times. We were on deck seven which is only two decks above the smoking deck five so I'm not sure if it was coming from there or from the folks next to us. We did see someone next to us smoking on the first afternoon prior to sail away, (it was easy to spot as he was standing at the balcony rail). We mentioned it to our cabin attendant who said he would check it out as he tells us they are responsible to determine if there is smoking on the balconies.

The casino was filled with smokers in the evening. especially the first night when it was very windy outside. Folks were just hanging around machines/tables , smoking. Some are seated in clusters facing each other with their back to machines smoking. I am not a smoker, but I think the cruise line needs to set up some sort of indoor smoking room.

I did not see anyone smoking in any other area of the ship.

Enjoy

Enjoy reading about Enchantment experiences.

We also liked the food in the MDR and Park Cafe.

We also missed Coco Cay (in March.) The ship went directly to Nassau so we were able to go to the beach there in the afternoon- the ship docked overnight.
