okgirl Posted December 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2014 I could not get "search forum" to work..... Can men wear nice shorts for dinner on the Liberty? Yes, on cruise casual nights. Just not cut offs or gym shorts.
jackparts Posted December 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2014 It's been posted that shorts were seen on Elegant nights. My family was denied access to MDR on the Glory in November due to being in nice shorts. I later saw cruisers we knew in the casino, wearing shorts. They were allowed in the same MDR by the same hostess. I went back to the MDR and saw a lot of other cruisers in shorts, some not as nice as ours. Guess it's hit and miss. Disconnections Posted December 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2014 =Shorts are permissible every night except Cruise Elegant . Not exactly. Some ships, at the discretion of the Maitre d', are allowing "dress shorts" on Cruise Elegant. The Fun Times will say if your ship is eligible. YMMV. MCC retired Posted December 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2014 The daily Carnival paper will specify no shorts on Elegant night . However on our recenty Liberty cruise , shorts were rampant and there was no enforcement. Looks like CCL and other CL's are following Disney's lead soon , anything goes. Looking at those hairy legs at dinner is upsetting , even on the men .
kyrisong1 Posted December 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2014 Nice shorts are allowed. I really don't care what anyone wears, I take care of my own self and let everyone else do the same. I don't really look at anyone elses legs either so hairy or not, they don't bother me. ;)

westview1 Posted December 27, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 27, 2014 My BF will wear shorts to the MDR every night except elegant nights with no problems. They are cargo shorts in good condition, no holes, tears etc.

Disconnections Posted December 27, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 27, 2014 Why even call it "Elegant night" then, they should just do away with it.... ... in the hopes of some people at least wearing a collared shirt and long pants to look "semi-nice" to increase revenue through photography sales. Statistics show that when people "look nice" or "feel good," they tend to take more pictures. Elegant Night is still here because it is profitable for the cruise line. riffatsea Posted December 27, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 27, 2014 It is really funny to read this thread! My husband is the most down to earth informal guy you have ever met! He'll wear jeans and a t shirt everywhere BUT for Carnival cruises on elegant night (and most other nights) he'll be in long pants/jeans but not ever shorts. I think his legs get cold with all the aircon on board the ship! Everyone cruises differently!
USNUZULOOSE Posted December 27, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 27, 2014 I don't let what people wear to dinner affect me. It is up to Carnival to tell them to change or not. If Carnival does not say anything, not much anyone can do.
PA Dutchman Posted December 28, 2014 #16 Share Posted December 28, 2014 Get used to shorts Elegant night is in name only, do your own thing and don't worry about everybody else. I saw a tux with shorts and long black socks go do your own thing

If Carnival does not say anything, not much anyone can do. I don't let them either. I honestly don't care what people are wearing. True people should follow rules I guess, but if carnival doesn't care, I don't either. My fiancé isn't interested so much in elegant night because he likes wearing jeans, so we will probably skip it all together. He says we are going and he will wear the dress pants, but I don't really care if we go or not. . He would probably try going in with jeans lol, but I am a scaredy cat lol. I wouldn't want them to turn us away lol. I am one though that wears dresses to dinner every night, no matter the occasion. I don't understand why they allow some of the backdrops to block doorways and areas that are marked as routes to muster stations/emergency exits. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app Perhaps emails to Rear Admiral Mark Buzby, Rear Admiral Joseph Campbell, Ray Valeika and John Lauber are in order if they're creating a safety hazard by blocking emergency exits and muster routes. They are part of Carnival's new Safety & Reliability Review Board, after all.
