hypercafe Posted January 11, 2015 #76 Share Posted January 11, 2015 Its funny business, NCL needs around 45,000 people a week to fill their ships, which they do now. Let's see, paint the hulls white, downgrade the entertainment to match that of Oceania, no pay restaurants, better food and more all inclusive and raise prices to cover it all. Sounds like a high risk plan and since NCL makes a profit now what is the point? Sent from my XT1032 using Forums mobile app
roothy123 Posted January 11, 2015 #77 Share Posted January 11, 2015 Norwegians' ships are not the first to be big and boxy- -and they aren't the first to be ruined by a hideously bad paint job, either- Given time, I know he will find a way to bring classy back. Oh my, and I thought AIDA's ships were bad! I hate those big red lips and big eyes looking at me....
Rare LHT28 Posted January 11, 2015 #78 Share Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Just like before it is a wait and see game Time will tell what or if changes will happen & to what lines Unless you have control over things why stress about it I was in the wait n see mode when NCL bought Oceania & still there ;) Just because FDR is now at the top does not mean that things will changes for the better or worse He is in the business to make money for the Company Edited January 11, 2015 by LHT28
Kinkajou Posted January 11, 2015 #79 Share Posted January 11, 2015 Jim & Stan, you beat me to it. Communication Arts (CA) magazine did a spread on the SS Independence when it was first painted. I thought it looked pretty interesting in 1968. The good news for NCL is that Frank Del Rio will be able to commission more appropriate and interesting art for their ships in keeping with their branding. I really hate the Peter Max design. More info on the Independence. http://www.ssmaritime.com/ss-independence-constitution-2.htm
lyndenfa Posted January 12, 2015 #80 Share Posted January 12, 2015 Just the other day we were discussing his hands-on involvement when on Marina's maiden voyage FDR, Mr. Binder & a rep from Fincantieri (I assume) were making rounds. Clipboard in hand notes were made of this and that detail. (won't mention the discussion of the wonderful, enormous quartz crystal table lamps that once adorned the Grand Bar ) We were impressed that FDR and Bob were on-board working sleeves rolled up not just taking in all the people. Hello YoHoHo. fond memories of that cruise. So great to meet Mr DelRio and Mr. Binder and had a short conversation more than. I have photos of the unbelievably gorgeous quartz crystal table lamps so sort they did not survive the storm. Best memories of any cruise ever. Congratiulations Mr. Del Rio. May we meet again Lynne
