sparky-elpaso Posted January 14, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Great shots of the comet - now I know what to look for. I've been wanting to look for it but we've been socked in with clouds the past few days. Did you go outside of town or to an area with fewer lights? Our neighborhood has lots of street lights so I think we may go to a park a little ways away where there are fewer lights.
shootr Posted January 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2015 I'm in the middle of town with lights, but from the backyard with binoculars you can define it 100% from the surrounding stars. Darker is better though, especially for your night vision to maximize. This is a decent map to help. Basically look in the east and find Orions belt. Follow that up (higher in the sky) past the brightest star Aldebaran and up to a fuzzy mass that is the Pleiades. About a fist's width to the right is about where to look. Each number is the date of where it should be.

Pointy Tree Dave I sure wouldn't want to get close to that tree. Those spikes look dangerous.
