Harley-Davidson_Family Posted January 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I know it says it include the gratuities as part of the package but is it custumary to still tip a $1 a drink? Is it like on RCCL during Diamond happy hour time at the bars? Your drink is free but you still have to sign a slip and it feels weird not to tip something. Rare Azulann Posted January 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I always get a beverage package now.If you go to the same bar often, the waiter will know you and already have your number or just write down your seapass number. No need to sign anything. I have given some of them a tip on the last day, and sometimes when they are really busy and we got great service I will leave a tip. gsu_paintballer Posted January 16, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2015 If someone brings it to me, I tip them a dollar every time. If I'm just sitting at a bar, I usually don't

Kathamo Posted January 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2015 This may be a dumb question, but if there is no slip to sign, how do you tip? Do you carry cash around with you?
Killington Posted January 16, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 16, 2015 Yes just tip cash, the occaisional $1 or $2 at a bar you frequent often, especially if the same bar tender serves you all time you are there. Don't sweat about it, just drop the ocaisional extra if you are getting good service.
greydog Posted January 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 16, 2015 This may be a dumb question, but if there is no slip to sign, how do you tip?Do you carry cash around with you? I bring about 20 $1 with me. When given out, I take $20 and convert to $1 at Guest Registration, mentioning it for tipping purposes. Using the same couple servers, I usually got a generous pour. MDR sommelier was 'liberal' with wine-by-glass choices. If I got the bev pkg as booking promo then tipping a little seems reasonable.
cle-guy Posted January 16, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 16, 2015 I don't tip for drinks other than sommelier an maybe last night at martini or molecular if i feel i've gotten special service. But as a habit, no I don't. But I often travel without package, and it's; added automatically anyway. Where a normal bar I'd leave a buck a drink, here it's auto 15% at $1.80 per drink or something like that on a $13 cocktail.
cruisehome Posted January 16, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 16, 2015 i definitely agree I always tip - once I go to the same bar over and over , it seems the same bartender waits on me and yes knows I like my cosmos - I tip them on the last night they deserve it - I see them making all these drinks for everyone and I hardly ever see anyone leaving a tip they work hard
cle-guy Posted January 16, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) i definitely agree I always tip - once I go to the same bar over and over , it seems the same bartender waits on me and yes knows I like my cosmos - I tip them on the last night they deserve it - I see them making all these drinks for everyone and I hardly ever see anyone leaving a tip they work hard I look at t like they got a $49 at 15% tip = $7.35 in tips of the classic package per day, distributed among those servers who served me. I rarely order more than 7 drinks a day, and at home I tip $1 per drink,. so they are making more than I tip normally at a normal bar. On premium package, $54/day at 15%= $8.10. Remember the123 drink package includes the gratuity, just as the gratuity perk people talk includes the gratuity. jveevers Posted January 16, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 16, 2015 I figure that 15% grats has been added already so never have tipped extra. I dont feel like I get less than good service . Come to think of it, after 4 US based cruises, I dont recall ever noticing anyone passing tips over , that doesnt mean they didnt, maybe just more discreet. awhfy Posted January 16, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 16, 2015 We tip if we go to the same bar. It's nice having your favorite drink handed to you as you walk up to the bar. Worth a couple of bucks to me Sent from my iPhone using Forums
blindrid Posted January 16, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 16, 2015 When my favorite bartender takes care of me (regardless of package) I gave him a $20 a couple of times. Server, not necessarily.
Kathamo Posted January 21, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 21, 2015 So it sounds like if you have a beverage package, and IF you want to tip extra (which is by no means expected), the only way to do this is with cash.
HeatherC430 Posted January 21, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I take about 100 dollar bills with me on each cruise. Generally, I'll tip an extra $1 in cash each trip to the bar (assuming I get good service). A lot of people don't though because the gratuities are already included in the price of the package. They seem to really appreciate the extra tip when you give it though.

Early last year, I would get a zero print out for package sales with a tip line so I could add, I noticed on my silly sailing, they no longer do this. Wonder if its a "thing" or just depends on the server.

We bring a lot of $1 bills so that we have the cash available if we need it, and we tip as we feel the service merits. Of course, my husband won't go get the $1 bills from the bank any longer... I guess the last time he did the teller made a comment about him having "a fun guy's night" and now he's embarrassed to ask for small bills again.
Sapphire723 Posted January 22, 2015 #20 Share Posted January 22, 2015 While I don't carry ones around with me, Hubby and I will make the rounds on the last night and give larger tips to those bartenders who were really great.

I hand my cabin attendant $20 the first time we meet and state that this is just to make sure that my ice bucket(s) are filled twice a day. Get great service there also:cool:JACK IS SAILING AGAIN
TeaBag Posted January 22, 2015 #24 Share Posted January 22, 2015 We use some of our OBC for this. We go to the casino and get the dollar bills there. Sure, we pay 5% for this but we feel this is better than having a wad of $ bills in your wallet when you travel to your cruise.

If one feels if he or she's excess tipping gets them better service, so be it. For me, I practice the same. It's amazing how much $5, $10, & $20 go when it comes to extra special service.
