Valet luggage???

 Share

Recommended Posts

Yes

Depending on ship and if your airlines is a carrier in the program

Different ports have different flight time dead lines.

Fort Lauderdale for example your flight has to be after 11:30

And if you are in a suite the service is free.

Safe travels.

Our flight is at 11:29. I wonder if they would allow the one minute leeway.

Probably. I needed about 9 or 10 minutes leeway and the TV in the room would not let me register on line. I went to guest services and asked - they had to check with the airline, and the airline said OK. That was on the Oasis and the airline was Delta.

On Oasis now and have asked in 11:29 will work. First guest service rep said no. I asked him to check further and his superior said yes. So will see if we are able to sign up.

From what I understand you still put your luggage out the night before, but you don't claim it in the morning, but rather it is claimed by a rep of the airline. Of course there's no way of knowing that the rep actually gets your bag as you are already gone. Anyone have a bad experience with valet luggage? I'm a little concerned my bags could be left sitting at the dock and I won't know that until they don't show up at the other end.

But you don't know if your luggage will arrive in your destination airport even when you hand it in yourself at your departure airport.

:)

I have used luggage valet twice, with great success.

Yes. Agree. But that's one less person to worry about. At least you know it is starting out at the airport. We will most likely try it. Glad to hear you had a good experience.

Just wanted to update on our luggage valet experience.

First, they allowed my flight time of 11:29. They made a phone call to ??? and it was okayed. However, on the intitial tags going to the sorting location, they put down 11:30 so that must be their workaround. While at that location, that tag was pulled from our luggage and the airline official tag was put on. Not sure where that location is.. at FLL or on ship.

The service is absolutely worth every penny paid. Not having to hastle bags on and off two shuttle buses and fight the crowd at check in was great. The gal at GS said there were 1500 people signed up on our Oasis cruise and there would be more if they did international. We will do this again next time without hestitation. Of course, our bags showed up at LAX so I can say that with a smile. :) If we were still sorting out a lost bag, I suspect my post would be different. :( I'm guessing the airline would know if they had taken possession of the lost bag or if it was still on the ship. That was our only concern... the potential of passing the buck over lost luggage.

We used express walk off at around 8 am and was at FLL with more than enough time. If you rent a car from Alamo or National (pre or post cruise) they offer a free shuttle both ways making trip from port to airport even easier. For those not familiar with FLL, there is a parking garage for rental cars at Terminal 1 where the port shuttle comes and goes. If you are on any of the airlines serviced there (Virgin America et al) that's it. If you are at Terminal 2, 3 or 4, you need to take another shuttle. I would think the FLL website would show that information.

Well we used luggage valet departing FLL yesterday and still do not have our luggage

United cannot even tell us if it made it on the plane. When leaving the ship, we were told we had been selected for customs screening and were taken to a room where our luggage was supposed to be searched but our luggage wasn't there. Then we were told it had gone ahead to the plane- but it wasn't at Chicago when we arrived. Still searching.

Oh, no Merion Mom. That was my biggest worry. No one would know where my luggage was and the buck would start passing between the airlines and Royal. I'm glad I read this AFTER I gave them my bags. I hope they find it quickly. I hope the handlers did not put it back on the ship thinking it was going rather than coming.

Please let us know when they find your bags. Given you've packed warm weather clothes, I suspect you won't be needing them in Chicago this week. [emoji4]

Luggage never made it to the airport- I don't know if the breakdown was with customs or with the cruise line. We were pulled for screening but our luggage was not in the room where we were supposed to be inspected and the customs agent couldn't find it.

I just got off of the Independence of the Seas and my Luggage Valet is "free" since I am a Pinnacle Member. I really love Luggage Valet but read on........

Thirteen people were cancelled out of the luggage valet program on my cruise, and I was one of them. I was very confused why this happened so I dug into the issue at the Southwest Airlines counter and again when I returned home. It seems that when you book a "senior fare" you will have to present yourself to the airline and they cannot take your luggage!

This is the first time this has happened to me and I'll NEVER book another senior fare on SWA again! So, head's up! Take note.....the SWA senior fare isn't worth losing the Luggage Valet benefit.

Has anyone had experience with this out of Port Canaveral? Used it in Ft Lauderdale...HAL cruise...had to be in the first group off the ship in case customs wanted to open the luggage. Is it the same with RCCI? Does anyone remember what the earliest flight time had to be??

Thanks for your help.

We use this service a number of times. Makes it easy for walk-off express departing. As for being pulled aside for security and customs check, we have had this once (I think in Port Canaveral). When signing off, the ship security has a flag on our sea passes, taken to a separate room, then escorted to the front of the line to the customs check room. All in all, it was not to inconvenient. The luggage valet still made the plans and bags were at our final destination point. For $20/guest if not in a suite (above Jr suite) still a reasonable deal. Specially if you plan to be the port area for a late evening flight. Don't have to drag the bags around and let's u rent a small car at cheaper prices, making up for the $20 bucks. :D

We used it in December at Port Canaveral. We did not have to be in the first group off - we were told we could leave any time we wanted. The earliest flight time was noon.
