Randyk47 Posted January 28, 2015 #26 Share Posted January 28, 2015 This is probably a dumb question, but how do you know which cruises offer "special pricing" for three stars? I thought that was all just a joke (to say it nicely). We always book through our TA and only have ever gotten the same prices as we have found on HAL's website. Should she be asking for these mythical "special prices"? Additionally, does anyone know anything about these mythical discounts on 3rd & 4th passenger rates? Is there a difference for three star vs four star when it comes to these? On our most recent cruise we found it cheaper to book two cabins for our family of four rather than use the "discount" for 3rd & 4th passenger. Truth is, at least for me, that not once....like in never ever....has HAL been able to match the fares I've gotten from my collection of the three TAs I use. Now I've never had the occasion to book anything other than just one cabin for my wife and I so I honestly can't speak to what would happen with a third or fourth person. I also have never seen a significant difference in discounts based on star level.
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted January 28, 2015 #27 Share Posted January 28, 2015 I rarely get any discounts. The only time I see them is under these conditions: 1) You have a future cruise deposit outstanding 2) have NO cruises booked with hal 3) cruises are close to sailing and will not be valid on all cruises 4) move likely to occur on balcony or lower staterooms though I have seen them for higher level You need to have all these situations occurring or you will not see them in my experience. We've had it minus the FCC. Haven't been able to use it. :(
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted January 28, 2015 #28 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Maybe they feel sorry for me because I'm unemployed now ;). Sorry to hear that. I remember you had expressed that concern as a possibility. Hoping you get a good new job soon.
cruz chic Posted January 28, 2015 Author #29 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Sorry to hear that. I remember you had expressed that concern as a possibility. Hoping you get a good new job soon. Thx. I work in the oil industry so I'm not overly hopeful. That said, I'll be ok for a while and will take the cruises I have planned for this year. solocanadian Posted January 28, 2015 #32 Share Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Yes. We've priced things out for a trip with friends. I don't know if you can do it online though. You may have to call. I didn't try online, so I'm only speculating. POA1, please advise website where you got your avatar. Love yours and your wifes. :) Thanks. SilvertoGold Posted January 28, 2015 #33 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Thx. I work in the oil industry so I'm not overly hopeful. That said, I'll be ok for a while and will take the cruises I have planned for this year. So sorry. We've been following the Alberta news for the oil industry and feel this is way too premature, as was the Bank of C lowering the bank rate. As noted, do let us know how things go for you! The base cruise fare for them is 0. Carol

Rare POA1 Posted January 29, 2015 #37 Share Posted January 29, 2015 POA1, please advise website where you got your avatar. Love yours and your wifes. :) Thanks. We picked them up at an Avatar Store on Duval Street in Key West a few years ago**. You can zoom closer in if you click on the image. **Not really. It's from my enormous collection of clip art. It was in one of the vintage collections. We were pretty surprised to see that it was available on a wooden sign in Key West, though. I tried to pick two images that would go together so that we could have a combo image if we needed it. The only problem is that when you combine the images, my glass is much bigger than Huskerchick's. She makes up for it by having three smaller martinis.
