ckrobyn Posted January 30, 2015 #77 Share Posted January 30, 2015 Well one thing is now for sure....with everyone calling in to speak with supervisors and resolutions they have now learned that their currency exchange rate is out of whack and they are losing money. For those that have not yet taken advantage of this great offer you better do so quickly as it will most likely disappear very, very soon. Exactly. Ken at the beach Posted January 30, 2015 #78 Share Posted January 30, 2015 Exactly. That's Ok, I is purchased mine this morning. Worst case is I pay the exchange rate that the rest of the Canadians are. Also strange as I was able to purchase 500 exactly and not the 499 others were told was the limit. LuCruise Posted January 30, 2015 #79 Share Posted January 30, 2015 So this is a good idea for us Canadians but I do have one question. What happens to any on board money that you purchase but don't use? Do you get it back or lose it?

trev71 Posted January 30, 2015 #81 Share Posted January 30, 2015 I just got off the phone with a C&A (20 mins later) I got an email confirming that my $330 Canadian is officially $300 us on board credit. I got all the proof I needed. I am not worried. This I got a personal email as well. I am going to be honest I worry about little things, but in all honestly I feel 100% confident that we will have our onboard credits as of today at the 1.10 exchange rates So I feel good, about it :)
Rare nbsjcruiser Posted January 30, 2015 #82 Share Posted January 30, 2015 So this is a good idea for us Canadians but I do have one question. What happens to any on board money that you purchase but don't use? Do you get it back or lose it? We always put OBC on our cruises. If you don't use it all they will either give you a check or cash at the guests relations desk. We always close our account out when we head to bed on the last night so there is nothing to do in the morning.

CanuckCruizer Posted January 30, 2015 #84 Share Posted January 30, 2015 We are doing a back to back and I just called and bought $500US for $550CDN for each leg. My receipt just says I paid $550CDN for each cruise and does not mention the $500US amount. They put it through as one payment on my Mastercard of $1100CDN (for the two cruises). I was told that the limit you are allowed to purchase via the phone is $500US. You are able to purchase up to $5000US onboard credit but you must make a request online and then they will issue a certificate that you must redeem...yadda, yadda, yadda:) sounds too complicated to me, so just bought the $500US. Thanks again to the OP for alerting all of us Canucks!:D CanuckCruizer

It might be something new. That's what I thought too as I had read the other post (probably yours) regarding the higher amount. I wanted to buy more but didn't want to mess around with the "certificate" they were talking about and quite frankly, prefer to deal with a human rather than trust purchasing this online, but that is just me.:) Canuck

CanuckCruizer Posted January 30, 2015 #88 Share Posted January 30, 2015 Have all of you so far who have been successful booked with a Canadian TA? Yes - booked with a Canadian TA. Okay - Robyn - I think you made me paranoid - lol - so.... I not only got a receipt for each cruise from Gifts & Gear, which showed the money I bought in Canadian funds - I also received an e-mail from Resolutions stating that I had purchased $500US shipboard credit for a total of $550CDN for each of my cruises. (I obtained this e-mail by calling C & A, who then contacted Resolutions). I will also have a copy of my MasterCard statement showing the total amount paid, with the exchange of 1.10 showing, so I think I am COVERED now!:D Canuck
emmy Posted January 30, 2015 #89 Share Posted January 30, 2015 Have all of you so far who have been successful booked with a Canadian TA? Yes my question as well... does your booking have to be in Canadian dollars with RCI or a CDN travel agent Mine is with a US based TA
Hoopster95 Posted January 31, 2015 #90 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Yes my question as well... does your booking have to be in Canadian dollars with RCI or a CDN travel agent Mine is with a US based TA My previous post got buried on page 3: "I booked through an on-line USA TA. As a Canadian, if you book with a USA travel agent, getting an OBC deal does not apply to you. RCL will charge your credit card on file and it will be processed by your bank at current bank rates. If you are Canadian and booked with a Canadian TA in Canadian funds, then this deal may be a possibility for you. They will charge you the Canadian rate within their system. This gal I just talked to could not see on her system what that the RCL rate is at this very moment (11:40am PST) unless you have a Canadian funds booking and go through the process to buy the OBC." I also asked if I had logged in to RCL with my profile as a Canadian would this apply, and she said yes. She said that the system is based on whether you paid in CA funds or not, so if you pay in CA$ you'd get the preferred rate.

Well that settles that for me on my next 5 cruises all booked in US funds. I know I could cancel and book in CDN but I really want the cabins I have. Well 3 are not past final payment. trev71 Posted January 31, 2015 #92 Share Posted January 31, 2015 I booked while onboard my last cruise on the Oasis in May 2014, I did not use a Canadian Travel agent (For my first time ever). I cant really see the difference though because they would offer the same rate to everyone I would think. It cant hurt to call the number from the first page on here to find out. Rare A&L_Ont Posted January 31, 2015 #93 Share Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) Tomorrow I will buy OBC for 3 Carribean sailings and 1 western Med cruise. OBC, here I come. The gift that gives back. Take that AMEX and CIBC exchanges rates. :D Edited January 31, 2015 by A&L_Ont
brew99 Posted January 31, 2015 #94 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Glad I found this thread! I noticed the price of the premium beverage package has jumped from around $950 cdn to just over $1,100 cdn (8-day cruise for two people) over the last few weeks. Quite the jump in price in only a few short weeks! At this price RCI is charging a 1.23 exchange rate USD to CDN (or 0.81 CDN to USD) based on the comparable price point in US funds for the premium drink pkg. This is better than the current prevailing bank of CDA rate by a few cents and likely better by a few more compared to your bank. Question, can I apply an OBC to the cost of the beverage pkg? wassup4565 Posted January 31, 2015 #98 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Yep, we're getting crushed on the currency. Good for those that got a bargain earlier, but we are in the soup now. We'er not currency traders - just people trying to get along. Luckily, we had some USD in a USD account. We also had about $150 US in cash, purchased when the dollars were equal. Had to buy $300 more USD for upcoming trip today, and that cost us $390. I assume our OBC of $150 will still be $150. I'm hoping the tour operator in St Maarten will accept euros for payment, because we purchased those leftover euros several months ago when the dollar was so much better. This is how us little guys get along when the giants play dice with our lives and the currencies. I will say it

Rubywith Posted January 31, 2015 #100 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Just called this morning. Onboard credit of $300 US cost me $330 CAD. Great rate since the bank is selling US for 1.2995.:)
