Fire on Jewel

One clarification to make here - hallway was lit, but the green emergency lights along the floor were on

I did try one handle to see if I could go thru, but didn't try to force anything. Not knowing why they were closed.

Karen was absolutely correct, except for the time - it was 4:30. I later saw the "releases" - when I was bit more awake and didn't have urgent matters to attend too. It was just kind of a "what now" moment.

0200, 0430, all the same to me. Way to early to have to go wandering around the ship in search of a bathroom. lol. Since I didn't know the exact time, I just picked one that seemed like a good time to be fast asleep :D

Sounds like you made the right call anyway - we wouldn't want you to smash a finger in a fire door :p

Let's put Cruise Law News into perspective. I wouldn't take the word of a media publication that uses Facebook as it's main source of information.

I wouldn't take the word of that clown no matter where he gets his information from. Ambulance chasing slime bucket

I take it there was no Bravo call?

Did not hear a bravo call - either at the time the incident began or during the middle of the night. While I am a fairly sound sleeper, I think my cabin mate who is not would have heard it. [note: there had been a crew safety drill earlier in the week, think when we were in Dominica, that involved a bravo announcement.]

The interesting thing to me is that at 2:30 the doors were not closed. She had left cabin and found a working restroom. At 4:30 they were closed. Yet, supposedly the situation was resolved sometime between 3 - 3:30. We thought perhaps they had tested systems...

We leave April 4 on Jewel - praying that there is no problem that will affect future trips! We were on Jewel last spring break and although it does need to be refurbished, I sure don't want a fire to put it out of commission. Will be looking for more info:confused:

Hey SS we could use you over at the roll call. Kind of stagnant over there.

I was there, no big deal. Heard the alarm Beep at about 5:30, we were in the Schooner Bar, fire doors closed for a few minutes. A/C went out some toilets stopped working. We had a aft deck 10 cabin ours toilet never went out as far as I know. We went to dinner at 6 and the dining room was getting warm. Captain came on the PA around 6:30 made the announcement that we had blown a major breaker and that the engineering teem was working to restore the vacuum system fist and then the A/C. Vacuum system was back up in stages not sure when it was all fixed. A/C was next and by 10 the Schooner Bar had it's A/C back and by morning all was working again.

No Bravo call , no mention of fire.

All in all it was handled well by the Captain and crew.

We were on board. Passengers were informed a breaker blew. Passengers were not explained until next day why the ship stopped in water shortly following smoke billowing out of the rear and port side of ship. I don't think most passengers saw the smoke and it was pretty obvious the captain wasn't telling the whole story. We were within sight of Barbados so most people joked they could swim to shore if Titanic music started to play. We were dead in the water for 8-9 hours. Some were hoping for a tug back to Barbados fora few extra days on RCL's dime!

There was no compensation offered. A free drink would have been a nice customer service gesture, but overall it wasnt a big deal. We were on our first RCL cruise and enjoyed the ship/experience very much.

We were relaxing in the cabin when the announcement was made that there was a problem. I had noticed that it "felt" warmer before they said that the AC was down. We were told that a breaker had blown causing some lighting issues, toilet vacuum issue and AC issues. We were in cabin 9654 and our toilet worked at first then stopped for a short period and went back to working.

There was another announcement during late seating dinner that the lights were fixed and toilets were working again but the AC was still having issues. It was hot in the dining room but the waiters were in decent spirits and they kept the ice water flowing. They did close the shops and casino for a time. Moved some activities up to the pool deck to keep people out in the air.

Got back to our cabin after dinner and turned on the voyage channel. DH noticed that we were heading back toward Barbados. This went on throughout the night. Basically sailing in circles. Never were we "dead in the water". The ship was moving, albeit very slowly. No announcements over night. Slept with the balcony doors open until about 3:00am when it finally felt cooler.

Announcement in the morning let us know that we stayed close to Barbados to be shielded from the Atlantic. Everything was fixed and were on time to debark in San Juan.

Any fresh news from the Jewel?

What's to update? Ship made schedule, all amenities are working. Whether or not one of the A/C chillers is down for repair (not all are running all the time) is not something the general cruising public will ever learn.
