Sitka Tendering on HAL

Will be on M.S. Amsterdam in June 2015 visiting Sitka, AK.

 

Been to Sitka twice before on HAL and tendered both times.

 

I have heard that they have some cruise ships docking now, fact or fantasy?

 

Sitka is a lovely place but the tendering process is somewhat of a PITA, walking off the ship would be much nicer but probably put us further away from the center of town.

 

Anyone know the who, what and where of docking in Sitka?

That's would be news to me. I was just there a few months ago and I have no idea where a cruise ship would dock. All the ships I saw were tendering.

We were there in August of 2014. No new pier, and no sign of construction so I doubt that there is any docking. Seems like it is still a great tender port.

We docked at the new pier in Sitka while on the Celebrity Century in September 2013 (yes -- 2013) so it has been available at least since that date. The pier is north of the downtown area and Celebrity provided free shuttle buses to deliver folks to the Harrigan Convention Center in downtown Sitka. Cruiseline sponsored boat trips actually picked up folks at the pier.

Actually, it is not up by the Alaska Marine Hwy dock, but is closer to downtown Sitka.

According to the CLA Alaska ship schedule, all HAL ships will be tendering in Sitka. It looks like only Oceania, Regent and sometimes the Celebrity Infinity use the new dock.
