Quick "Future Cruise Credit" question - Sorry if lame

Sorry....don't have time (at work) to 'search'...Quick question:

 

 

I have a "future cruise credit" and I'm drawing a mental blank. Can I use it to reserve a weekend cruise?? Gut tells me 'no' but just wondering.

 

NCL not open for a couple hours, still, so figured this is quicker ;)

No, it's either 6+ or 7+ day cruises. I can't remember which.

I had hoped to use mine on a shorter cruise too, but read on here I couldn't. I had also read on here that you can use only 1 per cabin. Good information to know ahead of time before one picks out a cruise and gets disappointed if it can't be booked using the FCC.

I believe they are only refundable in the first 30 days, after that no, but they are transferable so you could sell it to someone. I know of no itinerary restrictions other than length of cruise (and if you book a full suite it can be applied to the deposit but does not represent the full deposit).

It was my understanding you get $100 OBC on the cruise that your on when you purchess the FCC

I was wondering if that $100 was refundable or non refundable obc

Otherwise, imagine... EVERYONE would purchase a $250 FCC, get the immediate $100 OBC to use, then go home, and "return" the FCC and get... $250 back.

 

Nifty $100 profit per person or per FCC (and each passenger can get 3, I think is the limit).

I did read the info from there web site, but I did not see where it said if the $100 was refundable or not

No it doesn't. :)

 

It says "Freestyle Cruise Rewards Deposits are refundable only within 30 days of purchase, in the amount paid minus the amount of the instant $100 shipboard credit."

 

The amount paid (not taking the OBC into account) is $250, not $150. Only after you substract the OBC, the total will become $150.

That is true, but OTOH it doesn't say in most places that NCL given OBC is non-refundable either.

 

EDIT: The whole purpose of the $100 OBC is to get people to spend more money onboard - NCL could just as well sell the FCR for $150 to begin with but then most people wouldn't spend the extra $100 in shops/bars/etc. Those of us who realize the mathematics behind it, do not spend any extra and get FCRs for $150 each.

We are planning to buy several FCC (maybe 4) on the next cruise but worried about how we are going to spend the extra $400 OBC. We don't drink alcohol or go to the casino. We also pre-pay DSC and Shore excursions...

I for one am disappointed that the cruise length has to be 6 days or more. Would it hurt NCL to put an exception on it that if you book a B2B with one of their consultants you can use it.

We have bought 2 of the future cruise rewards in the past and would really like to do a B2B on the Sky in one of the aft penthouses, but because they are classed as 2 cruises each with a duration of less than 6 nights you can't use them, as well as not receiving the same points as if you were on a 7 night or more cruise I doubt if we would be tempted to part with $5k+ and not receive the same benefits.

B2B is not one cruise unless sold and booked as a combined itinerary under one reservation number and as you've noticed, they do not market/sell Sky cruises like that.

 

...because they are classed as 2 cruises each with a duration of less than 6 nights you can't use them, as well as not receiving the same points as if you were on a 7 night or more cruise...

 

You will get the exact same amount of points on Sky cruises as on all others. Only the perks onboard are different on short cruises.

Cruise Rewards Deposit $250.00 (listed under charges)

Non-refundable Credit $100.00 (listed under credits/refunds)

 

The charge and the credit do not happen at the same instant, as listed between them on my invoice it says "Gem Casino Charge- Slot Tournament" for $30.00 under "charges." You are charged $250 for the FCR, not $150. Whether the $100 non-refundable OBC gets applied back to the $250 you spent in the first place I do not know, as we have had at least $100 in additional charges on our cruises. If, however, the $100 non-refundable OBC does not get applied to paying for the FCR, then you'd be paying $250, or $500, $750, etc., and leaving the ship with a substantial amount of unused OBC if it's not spent on something. I am only pointing this out so that hopefully someone who buys FCRs and absolutely nothing else on a cruise will confirm whether they indeed receive a bill for only $150, $300, etc. at the end. I don't want to see anyone get off a ship leaving behind a substantial amount of OBC.

13 day cruise for 2 people times $12 = $312.

FCR = $250

Non-Refundable Onboard Cred = $100

 

Our bill was $462.

This is my concern since we normally don't spend a lot on a cruise. And this time, we have pre-paid our DSC as well.
