CB Delayed Embarkation - What's the real skinny ?

In the other thread I saw posts about CB and the delayed embarkation to clean the ship real well. What's the real skinny on the push back ? The notice say not to arrive till after 1:30. Do you think if we get there at 12:30, around the same time the B2B get to reboard, we will beat some of the rush ? Our flight lands at 10:30 so we will be there in plenty of time.

Hate to miss out on an afternoon on deck by the pool when its going to be 86 and sunny in FLL tomorrow.

What are everyone else's plans ?

Have you received the health advisory?

In this situation (deep cleaning) they are usually pretty strict on boarding times.

If you arrive early you may be turned away.

We were on the Crown a couple years ago when we were advised of delayed boarding after 130pm in Fort Lauderdale. This was also due to a Noro outbreak. When we arrived at the pier at the later specified time, we were directed/sent to the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center where we waited and waited and waited before being allowed to FINALLY board at about 530pm. Don't get there early. You will not be allowed to board. I bet if you go directly to the pier from the airport as I am sure many will have to do because they have nowhere else to go, you'll be sent to the Convention Center as well.

We sail on the Caribbean Princess in a couple weeks so I am hoping that she gets her Noro issues resolved by then!

We will certainly not get there 3 hours early. I think our plan will be to drop off the luggage, since you can do that, then cab it some where for lunch.

I'm talking about if we get there at say 12:30 when the B2B passengers are told to reboard.

Right not the advisory says after 1:30. So I was only thinking 1 hour before.

Me, too! Our cruise on her is 3/14.

I know noro is everywhere and that other cruise lines get it as well but seems like Princess ships get it much more than other ships.

After our 5 day cruise to nowhere on the Crown a couple years ago and having the CB booked for April this makes me leery.

Bill

I honestly see more reports of it on Royal Caribbean.

Don't know if this has to do with anything, but our 3/14 Caribbean Princess cruise is now showing as sold out in all categories. Earlier today, there were several room in several categories available and GTYs, too. Would they have closed down new bookings due to the outbreak? I know that sounds silly but it is kinda weird to be so different than earlier today. (And, the Regal that sails the day after us is still showing openings.)

Has nothing to do with Noro.

Spring break is popular.

Princess cruises almost always sell out.

We are just finishing up 5 B2B on the CB, up to the last couple days there had not been a problem. Long line in the buffet now due to service restrictions and dinning room service is slower. Pizza, Grill and International cafe area are the best choices to get something quick.

Due to slow internet I have not read everything but was told there is over 600 staying on and they will wait in the theatre and immigration will process them there so that the terminal can be cleaned.

Most things that many people could touch have been removed but at the grill at lunch everyone was still self serving condiments (relish etc with spoon/tong and ketchup etc with a push pump) and if you use the forward or centre elevators you have to open heavy doors yourself.

Perhaps you read the Princess boards more often than others? I know I do.

I've been on exactly one cruise with noro and it was a HAL ship. And it really didn't lessen my enjoyment of the cruise (other than listening to others complain about having to be served everything. (Isn't that what we strive for anyway?)

Did you have noro on the 5 day Crown?

This is what happened with my mom. She also commented she felt that Princess gets noro more often than other ships, but I told her that it's only because she pays more attention to what's going on with Princess ships.

This data supports that theory: http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/surv/gilist.htm

We will be boarding the CB on 3/14 - hope it's all clean and healthy then!

Just wondering about all the precautions with the current Code Red.

I understand that many self-serve options are affected - buffet/bread baskets/salt and pepper shakers/etc.

What about the casino? Do they worry about the slot machines? Not that I'm worried - I think I've spent less than an hour in the casinos on our cruises:D

I think it would be interesting to watch people who won't touch a hand rail or an elevator button punching those slot machine buttons:rolleyes:

Picked up some Clorox wipes and Immodium today so we should be good!

Yes we definitely did. We started out on a 7 day cruise departing FLL and going to Princess Cay, Aruba, and Curacao.

We boarded around 7 pm after the prior cruise came in with Noro and had to be deep cleaned and left about 10pm thus cancelling our port stop the next day at Princess Cay.

We were to be given some OBC and some extra time in Curacao.

During our voyage we had so many with Noro that the CDC ordered us back to port in FLL.

So we never stopped anywhere and dealt with code red all week. Some still enjoyed themselves but unfortunately being a bit of a germaphobe I did not.

I am only on the Princess board when I have a Princess cruise booked which is not often.

I didn't take every year on the CDC list but the last 5.

Reported cases of noro:

2015 - 2

2014 - 8

2013 - 8

2012 - 16

2011 - 10

Out of the 44 cases in those 5 years this is the amounts of times Noro was reported per ship:

Princess - 14

Celebrity - 10

Royal Caribbean - 8

HAL - 5

NCL - 3

P & O - 1

Crystal - 1

Oceania - 1

Carnival - 1

Let me amend my original statement. "In the last 5 years there have been more cases reported by Princess."

I also didn't add the case reported this week on the CB.

If I remember correctly, all arriving passengers for your "cruise to nowhere" were put into the convention center which was very crowded.

In addition, those doing a B2B had to be off the ship and were also put in the convention center while the ship was being cleaned.

No matter how thorough the ship cleaning was, the convention center was the perfect place to have new cases caused by the close proximity of the new passengers (some of whom could be arriving not knowing they had contracted noro) and the B2B passengers (some of whom could have harbored the virus).

You are correct. I remember going to the mens room and while washing my hands seeing a gentleman leave the stall and head directly out of the bathroom.

Come on now. You are delayed boarding for noro and you don't wash your hands.

I washed my hands every time I passed a washroom when we were out of our cabin, and wiped down everything in our cabin as soon as we got on.

Funny thing is people could have it and not show symptoms and casino is a good way to spread it with the slots and the chips at the tables.

We are boarding today. We picked up a Thrifty rental car at the airport yesterday and are at a hotel near the port. This morning we're driving to the port and dropping off our luggage and heading to Sawgrass Mills. We plan to return our car to the Thrifty at Port Everglades about 2:00 and take their shuttle to the ship. Fingers crossed that our timing will work out well. I'm a little bummed that we'll miss lunch in the dining room today - love the orange soufflé they always serve on embarkation day!

I was no the cruise before your 5 day one. On our cruise I don't think that they really got the true number of sick PAX with noro. The Dr. and nurses were up for at least a day and a hale tring to treat PAX. It started to get bad two days before the cruise ended. The Captian over the loud speaker kept telling PAX's to wast their hand. The crew had it too. One of our waiters had it and our other waiter's cabin mate had it. The chef at the buffet also had it. I have been on many cruise that had it but never like this one. Some of the people in out party got sick after they got home. We were lucky and never got it. It was bad.

When we have received the late departure notice in the past, we have either received a free late check out or paid extra for it and just stayed at the hotel until late afternoon. There is no way I am standing around the convention center or at the pier waiting to board. And i don't bother dropping our luggage off either.

We were on a long cruise several years ago and the word got around the ship that noro had hit but it ended up being a stomach issue - two buses of passengers on a tour picked something up during their lunch stop.

The symptoms are similar to sea sickness so the so called reported cases on a cruise with rough seas ended up not to be noro. And there are many people who under no circumstances will report it to the medical center. Probably the same people that don't wash their hands and I've seen many of them.

This is just part of the world today. People are going to board sick rather than give up their vacation.

W0uld you really cancel and disappoint the rest of your family? especially if you didn't purchase insurance.

CDC says you can still share the virus with others for several days after you no longer have any symptoms.

I would, in fact I tried to cancel our cruise the night before our ill fated voyage but Princess would not let me and I wasn't eve sick.

But that's just me.
