If you had the choice on the Navigator...

Recommended Posts

I was in 901 last month in the Western Caribbean. Loved the large room and thought the balcony was fine. Both are forward suites, 1001 could be more rock and roll if you get weather (as we did but both of us rather enjoyed it). Unless you're going to entertain and / or are motion sensitive, I'd go for the larger balcony. A good portion of the living room in 901 is occupied by a large dining table that seats 8, of little use to us. We loved being in a master suite, it really made our cruise. Well, that and the ice cream bar poolside.

On the Navigator:

Would chose 1001 with more balcony or 901 with more cabin?

Help.

Scott

I think it depends on the itinerary. If you have a lot of ports you will be able to use the front part of the balcony on a daily basis. So 1001 If not - then on sea days furniture there will be tied down and you will "loose" that part, effectively. This doesn't happen on the side balconies so in that case 901 is a better idea.

Scott, when I saw your name here I thought I was on the wrong board knowing how loyal to Crystal you are. I think it's great for people to sample different lines.

I can't answer your question about the Navigator as we have not sailed on her. We have been on the Mariner and Voyager and it has been years since we sailed Regent. I can tell you our favorite ship was the Voyager hands down and that is only our opinion.

All I can say is Regent is in for a real treat if you sail with these guy's..

I, too, thought that I was on the wrong board as I always read the posts and watch your youTube postings from the Crystal board.

IMO, choose your suite based on your itinerary, time of year, how much you would actually use the balcony, and the layout of the suites. I love the Navigator, but she does have her quirks. (Don't we all!) It really does come down to what is most important to you.

WOW!

What are you guys doing over here??!!! Like everyone else, I thought I'd made a mistake and had punched in the Crystal board!

I'd have to agree with all that's been said about the Navigator. Been on her a couple of times.

Although our pockets aren't deep enough to book one of the "big" suites, I think itinerary, time of year and how many sea days would have to be big factors.

After having done Crystal, IMO, I think it would be a step down from what you're used to. Don't get me wrong, I love Regent (we're off on the Mariner to the Med in April), but the Navigator is a little ship. Our daughter and I were on the Navigator for an Alaska trip. While we loved the itinerary, we couldn't find a bar that we liked (no Saloon or Cove on this one). Thought it was a little close with a full boat. Only one specialty restaurant (Prime 7 and not one of Regent's best) not counting the evenings where there Veranda becomes Sette Mari.

Probably TMI......sorry for rambling!

Scott -

Glad to see you are looking into Regent. We sail both Crystal (we were on the Symphony for the London to Boston crossing with you guys) and Regent (our next cruise is the Rio to Barcelona crossing in April). We have only sailed on the Mariner in the past and love her. We enjoy both lines a great deal. I feel the entertainment and enrichment program is better on Crystal but also enjoy everything about Regent especially the larger staterooms, the ability to dine when and where you choose, and IMO the passengers not being as formal.

As usual, enjoying you current "series" currently playing on the Crystal board.

We chose open dining by reservation in the MDR on Crystal and it was perfect for us. We do not like the two seatings and this was a big improvement. Like Mudhen mentioned Rgent does not have a Cove or a lively Avenue Saloon and lectures are not plentiful. The casinos are small and still from what I understand still allow smoking.

I think you will like Regent but do not compare it to Crystal or the CP that you I like. We had the MS on the Voyager which is large and very nice. The only Regent ship that we would be interested in trying would be on the new Explorer after it has sailed awhile. We will be looking for comments on her when she sails a few times.

My strong advice is to avoid 1001 (and 1002) as it is under the "Bridge". You hear walking above you (heavy feet from the Captain and his staff) 24/7. It took a couple of days to discover why people were walking about us all the time. Once we discovered what it was, we realized that there was nothing we could do about it. We did politely ask if they could walk a little softer in the middle of the night :)

For the fun of it and many laughs go and visit the Crystal sight and view Scott's videos of their travels. I think you will enjoy them as they take you on land and sea.

I hope when they sail Regent they will do the same here. Very entertaining.

Saw episode 7 - so funny! They are talented. Will look for more of them. Wish they weren't going on the Navigator. Can't imagine that it will rate well after the large, beautiful Crystal ships with all the lovely open spaces.

P.S. For transparency purposes, I have not stepped foot on a Crystal ship. My comment is made based on photographs of the ship, the size of the ships and reviews vs. personal experience sailing on the Navigator (in Master, Navigator and regular suites).

Jackie, glad you saw one episode they qualify for SNL. I still laugh when I think of some of their escapades. We have never crossed paths and that could be dangerous if we did because we are as crazy as they are and that is a double dose.

Hey, Scott we are looking for a post here.

Mark and I sailed in 1001; it was our "dream suite". We didn't hear the heavy walking on the bridge, but the forward balcony was useless most of the time. We could walk out there if we were docked or anchored, but at the time we were on board, there was no furniture on the forward part at all. I hope they have changed that but we regretted not opting for more space inside.

Thank you all for your responses. They have been a great help.

To all my Crystal buddies over here.... LOL.... you CAUGHT me!!!! I was trying to fly under the radar.

Gooch and are considering this line as they offer air and excursions included. We thought we could keep costs down a little.

Haven't yet booked for sure, but it looks like we may for 2016.

I'm really nervous about leaving Crystal, but it's only one cruise and life should be about trying new things. Talk about First World problems... LOL.

Thanks again for all your help AND for the kind words about my videos.

:D:D:D,

Scott

PS - @Suite Travels... If we were all on one ship together at the same time it would explode from too much fun!!!!!

I have NEVER made this recommendation in all of my years of posting on Cruise Critic. If you have booked either a Caribbean or Alaska cruise on the Navigator, PLEASE wait until the Mariner is in the Caribbean (or Alaska) and book on that ship rather than the Navigator. It will make all the difference in the world.

PS If you two plus Suite Travels (et al) were on a Regent ship, it would be fabulous. We would either love to be there or be a fly on the wall :D

That is a good itinerary for a "test" run on Regent. If you do not compare it to Crystal or assume that the Navigator is the same as Regent's other ships you should be fine. Here are some things to be aware of.

1. If the weather is inclement and all passengers go inside, the public areas and lounges become over crowded. If the weather is nice, the pool area is crowded.

2. Le Veranda (the cafeteria) is too small -- difficult to get a table - especially in the morning and at lunch. IMO it is better to dine in Compass Rose where you can be served at your leisure.

3. If the seas are rough, you will really feel it in the Master Suites. We were in a Master suite when my DH became seasick (first time on a Regent ship).

Based on some comments above, it sounds like the problem of the Captain and his staff walking back and forth on the bridge all night may have been corrected -- possibly with some noise absorbing carpeting. We last sailed on the Navigator prior to her last dry dock.

Okay -- no more bashing of the Navigator from me. Hope you both have a fabulous cruise and that you create a video for Cruise Critic. :D

I have to agree with all of the comments. The Navigator has her own personality. We have sailed in the Master Suite on the Mariner and of all the suites located in front of a ship, the Mariner Master Suite has part of the balcony enclosed. Also, the deck is so deep you don't notice the wind as much.

I'm sure whatever you decide, you and Gooch will enjoy ! After all, having a front suite you are able to do the King of the World move in privacy (except remember the bridge is above you. :)

Also, keep in mind you can host a cocktail party with a bartender present and your butler serving. It's a very fun time indeed.

Keep up the videos. I would love to see one of your videos aboard a Regent ship.

I have to agree with everything that Jackie said above. Knowing both ships and lines fairly well, I'd choose any of the other Regent's ships for a TA rather than the Navigator. Crystal really shines on TA's, and we're booked on the late Aug. Symphony TA, however Regent can be a good value with included air and excursions. No matter what you choose, passengers will be in for a treat sailing with you guys!
