Snorkeling Cozumel or Roatan?

Which is better? Any recommendations on non-cruise line tours appreciated.

In Coz you can enjoy good snorkeling from the shore at The Money Bar - about a $10 cab ride (for up to 4 passengers in the same cab) from the piers, no admission, good facilities, lockers, rental gear/guides if you need them, plus good food/drinks/service.

In Roatan, you'll have good beaches, and easy shore snorkeling at the West bay beaches. But it'll cost you to get there via taxi and most resorts have day pass fees. Bananarama charges $30-$35 pp which includes transportation from Mahogany Bay cruise port, showers, lockers, welcome drink. That's close tot he cost of a taxi one way. However, the cruise line beach excursions go to the same overall beach, Tabayana. So you might compare.

 

There are excursions to other sites n Roatan.

 

Also check Eagle Ray Divers in Coz. They offer reasonably priced off-shore snorkel tours and their main dock is relatively close to the cruise ports.

Just returned from Roatan and the ships excursion to Tabyana is only 39.99 pp, fantastic snorkeling right off the beach. no lunch included, pay as you go.

In Roatan taking a catamaran or snorkel boat out to the Barrier Reef (2nd largest in the world) is awesome! :D

Roatan. Both are great but Roatan wins by a mile when it comes to Scuba and Snorkeling. We love West Bay and go out of Bananarama. We walk down to the beach in front of the Infinity Bay Resort.

Lulu, Who did you book this catamaran and snorkel tour with? This is our first cruise and we have no idea.
