Fortaleza is the lousiest port we ever visited. The dock area was dirty and unkept which foreshadowed a dirty run down central city. We took the free Oceania shuttle in and caught the next shuttle back to the ship. Amazingly some World Cup matches were played there. I believe there is an area of modern beach hotels.

We loved Salvador, so much Folklore history.

Also missed Fortaleza due to rough seas on our 'round the Horn cruise a few years ago. A ship trying to dock ahead of us pulled out the pier tie-up... you know those huge steel blobs that they tie the giant ropes to? Yep, tore it clean off. We tied up just long enough to disembark a medical case and then quickly cast off for a lovely sea day.
