I'm hoping someone can help! We arrive in San Juan at 3:45 A.M. I know!

My question is... What the heck are we going be able to do until we can drop off our luggage at the pier/:confused:

We can drop off the luggage around 1pm and do some sight seeing but what in the world are we going to do for 9 hours??

I would hate to rent a room cause we will not be in it for very long at all! Anyone have any suggestions?

If you got a hotel room, you would be checking in under "Red Eye" arrival, but have to be out by 11am...

4am..you still need to get your luggage, then go through customs, etc...I would then catch a cab somewhere and have a leisurely breakfast, then do a little sight seeing..it's easy to kill a few hours walking around old San Jaun.

You don't mention from where you are flying.... how many hours?

If you are reasonably able to make the airport/flight/airport hassle and have energy, I agree about going to one of the nice hotels near the airport, leaving your luggage with bellhops and having a leisurely breakfast on their outdoor patio. Maybe sit a while outside when finished and catch a taxi to the pier around 11:00 or so. I would book a room but you mention you don't wish to.

You've probably realized this already, but you need to sleep in for as long as you can the day of your flight because you won't get much good sleep on the plane. No matter how you do it, you're going to be tired, but you need to have enough energy to make it through embarkation day. Taking some melatonin on the last leg of your flight might help a little.

No question but I would book a hotel room.

Let them know you will be a very late arrival so they don't call you a no show.

Ask for the latest check out time you can get IF you choose to book a hotel.

then go through customs

Customs? No customs for San Juan on flights originating from the US.

OP - I would also book a hotel room. Those few hours of actual sleep would be needed, not to mention the need for a shower after a red eye. Maybe when booking you can see if they would allow you to use the room past the "usual" check out time given you wouldn't be coming in until 430-5.

We were on Valor out of San Juan in 2013 and flew in a day early. We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Isla Verde. They are literally right across that main road from the airport (5 minute taxi ride) and are right on the beach which is a nice, wide beach and they also have a very nice pool area. There are a couple of restaurants in the hotel and a casino. I do remember check out was at noon. I can't give you an answer on whether they'd store your luggage for you or not. You could always contact them, if interested. Even if you don't want to get a room, they may be about to work something out with you - never hurts to ask.

JUst an FYI, when you say you will go to the port at 1:00 and drop luggage off and then go sightsee.

You should be able to board your ship by 11 or so.

Suggest a long breakfast, idea of doing it at a nice restaurant sounds like a great idea if they will hold your luggage. And then maybe go sit out under a tree by the pool and catch a nap.

Then by 10:30-11 I would taxi to the port and try to board.

Although I don't have any specifics, if you really don't want to book a room maybe someone knows of one of the casinos that is able to store luggage for those using the casino for a minimal cost? Casinos will always have something going on/something to eat. I'd suggest maybe focusing on a hotel with those?

Hi,

We too will be arriving in San Juan on the red eye from JFK on April 25 (Summit repo). My plan is to get our luggage and hop into a taxi to the Condado Plaza Hilton, the hotel has a Denny’s that is open 24hrs and a Starbuck’s. After getting early breakfast we could maybe take a look at the casino or grab a comfortable chair in the lobby to relax. We will then make our way to the pier by 10h30 – 11h00 and try to be in the first onboard so we can take a little needed nap. :)

Thank you for all your suggestions!!

I checked our flight detail and it looks like the flight is always "late" arriving in SJU. So maybe just maybe this will work in our favor this one time! We were thinking of hopping on over to the Denny's for a looooong breakfast! im going to call Carnival today to find out how early we can board...11am sounds great to me!!!

There is no customs to clear for people arriving from the US.

Get a cab and arrange an early day tour to El Yenque. The luggage goes with you and when you are done you can be dropped off at the pier.

Our flight comes in the night before at 10:30 pm. Will it be safe to get a taxi to Marriott at that time of night and will taxi be available? Also something to do next day before boarding the ship which sails at 8:30 pm. Does anyone know what time you are allowed to check in at the port to board. Will be on RCI Adventures of the Sea.

Thanks any information will be helpful.
