Blackjack on the ships

Recommended Posts

Does the dealer have to hit or stay on soft 17? I like to bring colored blackjack cards with me and they have ones for dealers hit on soft 17 or stay on soft 17. Do they still do the single deck games? And finally do they have $6 tables? Enough of them? I like to warm up on those and if I'm doing good I'll move up (no more than $25 though)

Dealer has to hit on a soft 17.

Do they still do the single deck games? Some ships do, don't know about Oasis, Quantum did not have any tables with single decks.

And finally do they have $6 tables? Some ships do, don't know about Oasis, Quantum does not have $6 tables, their minimum was $10 and only had 1 $10 table for quite a few nights and then opened a 2nd table for $10 towards the end of the cruise.

Enough of them? IMO, not really.

I like to warm up on those and if I'm doing good I'll move up (no more than $25 though)

Wishing you good luck in the casino!!!

Basic strategy should not differ depending on whether the dealer hits or stays on soft 17. I question the accuracy of your charts. Go to wizardofodds.com to print off basic strategy charts. That is the best source.

All of the single deck blackjack games in Vegas pay 6-to-5 on blackjack instead of the standard 3-to-2. I can't imagine single deck on a cruise ship would be any better. Do NOT play any 6-to-5 blackjack. Ever. You will get royally screwed.

I've never seen a single deck game....and the odds are awful on single decks....

Single deck On many ships, played it on Navigator and Jewel, and the odds are actually in your favor, if you now how to play properly

(No splitting 10s, you know what I mean), if you did, you would know..

All single deck tables we have played are $5 min, typically the clientele at single deck are wagering $25-$100 per box and the table is nice and low;)

Please reply, as you always post, then move on to another thread, without a response.

New rules regarding Blackjack will be revealed in April.

I wouldn't sit at third base until you have more experienced, that seat can make or break the table. I prefer inexperience BJ players to ask for assistance if unsure.

She's doesn't play BJ, she won't be back LOL

The BJ tables on Explorer started at $6. The minimum BJ table on Quantum's 3 nighter was $25

What's with the new BJ rules?

Hi! Did you see many low bet tables ($5-$10) tables on Freedom? Asking for my husband. I don't know if he prefers single deck or not, though. He's pretty good and knows all the odds, so I'm guessing he would prefer single deck based on what you said. I like to play too, but the minimums have to be low for me.

Been a while since we were on Freedom, so cannot answer with accuracy

Maybe someone who has sailed her recently can give you a more definitive answer.

There will be $10 & $25 for sure

I do remember you posting it, it's on the other Casino thread, I even received a copy from Celebrity, I'll look too.

Quantum had a single deck table on Feb 20th cruise.

I don't recall seeing a single deck on 1/23 sailing. Could it have been table by the Cashier? All other BJ tables were multiple decks.

Thanks for all your replies and advice! I'm not experienced by no means it's just sometimes I like to look at the cards when I get some funky numbers showing. Plus I will have some newbies with me and it will definitely help them[emoji12] This way when they ask me what they should do I'll just tell them to refer to the card and then I can't take the blame[emoji15]

Hopefully experience players will give you some guidance when they see your cheat sheet. ;)

This might have been true years ago but is most certainly not anymore. Single deck as it is played now is a total sucker game...

They pay 6:5 on a natural blackjack and more than any other game adjustment, it kills your odds, nearly doubling the house edge. By comparison, hitting soft 17 or disallowing double after split only add to the house edge by a fraction.

It depends on the decks in the shoe for the hit on soft 17. At most tables I believe they will hit a soft 17. They typically do have one table with single deck (most RC ships I have been on). The edge here is if you can count cards and take advantage when the deck is high card heavy. I only like to play it one on one with the dealer. They also typically do $6 tables during the day. It was posted in our daily compass but don't remember the days or time of day but I'm pretty sure it was during the day (not night). If the casino is dead that week perhaps they would do it at night.

Every RC table hits S17, without exception. As mentioned above, any advantage you might get from counting cards on a single deck is totally wiped out by their 6:5 BJ payout on this game. Every other game features a 3:2 payout on natural blackjacks. Hitting S17, for example, only adds around .3% to the house edge. On the other hand, 6:5 blackjack payout nearly triples the house edge.
