MarilynTX Posted March 10, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2015 We're cruising with another couple and our twin sons to celebrate their high school graduation and 18th birthday. I heard a nasty rumor that you have to pay to use the fitness center. I don't think it's true. Does anyone know?

However, you would have to pay extra to use the sauna or steam room. Edited March 10, 2015 by clarea
Langley Cruisers Posted March 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Gosh, that is a nasty rumor! :p The fitness center on each ship has always been included in your cruise fair, just go on in. The nasty rumor I heard about Oasis fitness center is that it smells terribly of cigarette smoke... not exactly what you want while working out. :(:(:(

Clarea Posted March 11, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2015 How much extra to sauna/steam? Can you pay per day? Don't know if you can purchase a single day. I thought it was around $100 per person for the week.
MarilynTX Posted March 11, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted March 11, 2015 Thanks for the responses. It probably is the charge for the sauna and steam room that my friend confused with the gym. When we sailed on Norwegian they charged extra for the private adult area that had the large Jacuzzi and heated pool but the gym was included in the price of the cruise. I didn't use the gym (although I need it) on our last RCCL cruise. I prefer the outdoor track although I don't use that one enough either.
Femmallele Posted March 11, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 11, 2015 There is slight (faint) cigarette smoke odor near the spa and fitness areas that comes and goes, probably due to its location directly above the casino. It is not overwhelming or discouraging and I am otherwise normally sensitive to that smell. It did not bother me.

It is not overwhelming or discouraging and I am otherwise normally sensitive to that smell. It did not bother me. My understanding was that it used to be for the entire cruise or a daily rate, but they no longer offer the daily rate for the thermal suite. (That was on Allure in November 2013.) The smell of smoke is reportedly due to a crew area next to or below the fitness center. It can be pervasive at times (it was on Oasis/not as bad on Allure) and probably depends on how sensitive you are to cigarette smoke. I'm more sensitive, so it may have seemed stronger to me. sexyaznboy Posted March 18, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2015 That really sucks about the sauna. I'm trying Oasis for the first time and never been charged for sauna. I assume they have showers? How does the towel service and lockers work, they give you a key and towels at the front desk? I definitely will need to work out daily as I love to eat!:)

sexyaznboy Posted March 18, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 18, 2015 thanks Clarea! I would think it would be pretty low of them to charge for using the showers! I personally don't think paying 100 bucks for use of the sauna is worthwhile use of my money. I wonder how many people would pay for this. I like to do the wet sauna though right before dinner, gets the toxins out for the toxins I'm putting into my body LOL
bruzin_for_a_cruizin Posted August 8, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 8, 2015 Can anyone clarify the fitness center shower/sauna/steam situation on Oasis? On our last cruise on Freedom, I enjoyed the steam and shower area every day. It was also easier for the rest of my family to get ready with me out of their hair! Is there actually a charge to use the fitness center?

Is there actually a charge to use the fitness center? There is not a charge to use the fitness center itself, and there is a tiny locker area in the fitness center. There is not a nice, larger, free locker area on Oasis/Allure like there is on Freedom. One deck down, in the spa area, there are men's/women's locker rooms that are intended for spa/thermal suite guests. I don't know if you could ask to use them if you are not paying for the spa/thermal suite. They are small, no free sauna, just a few showers, restroom, and lockers. You would have to turn in your seapass at the spa desk to get a locker key, but again, we did that only when we were using the thermal suite (which you pay for, as mentioned above, by the week). While I do enjoy a nice steam, I should be satisfied as long as there are showers available in the fitness center. It is a shame, though. The fitness center/steam room on Freedom is beautiful!
