We are on the road for our drive from Illinois to Houston for our cruise on the Jewel on Saturday. Yea!!! I was wondering about the casino on the ship. Do they ever pay? Has anyone ever won in the slot machines? I would love to hear your casino stories!

short answer.. yeah obviously they pay but...

you're a captive audience.

vp is awful.

$0.25 and below is 95% return. $1 vp is 96% return. $5 vp is 97% return (ie: 8/5 JoB).

slots are really really super bad awful.

best games are craps and blackjack.

both at about 99.5% return.

seach the web for blackjack strategy sheet.

you're allowed to bring a printed copy to the table and use it to play.

I ended up finishing positive ~300 recently on the Star at BJ/craps, though I had swings slightly northward of 1k. (Mostly in the negative direction.)

One of the people I met on the cruise said they barely broke even after they managed to one of the bigger progressives on a QHP. (800$ or so.)

It's probably a psychological bias, but everybody was complaining that they were winning at the start and everything went sour after a few days. (Myself included.)

The VP isn't optimal but it works.....last time on Epic had 2 x $1,500 hands (W2G), 2 machines pay out $1,000, and 2 others between $500 and $900. Didn't leave in the positive, but had one heck of a time playing big on their $.......

2 times before that on NCL, nothing major, but quite a few in the $500-$900 range.

On the Jewel play the penny penguin games. They are so fun! The penguins go wee yippee and the bonuses hit pretty often. We were fluctuating our bet and stayed pretty even for the first two days. Then of course the house edge always wins in the end.

We also played a different wolf game on the Jewel that had an eagle bonus I believe won $750 on that one!

Have fun!

I was on the Jewel Thanksgiving week and did real well the first 4 days on the slots. Played a lot, got a lot of points and was about a grand up each night. Towards the end it cooled off. I had a great time, the Casino staff on the Jewel were exceptional, they offered me complementary dinners in the specialty restaurants every night. I had a great time. Say hi to Andra the Casino host, a very nice young lady. Tell Andra Kevin says hi.
