Verizon Cell Phone Coverage in Alaska?

Hi. I'm going on the Princess Ruby cruise to Alaska on May 10, 2015.

 

Does anybody know if Verizon has coverage in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan?

 

I try to call home regularly ... and I'm hoping I am covered.

We have used a Verizon MiFi in Alaskan ports, as well as Anchorage on previous cruises. I am not sure we had used the phones in Alaska.

Skagway cell service usually doesn't work well if at all. With a normal population of 1000 , the cell provider doesn't setup extra capacity for the summer cruise season. Locals don't even try using cellphones during the cruise season.

Thanks TinCan782! That is great info for Alaska. We will be in Fairbanks on our own for a day and wanted to use the GPS on our phone to get around. Looks like we can!!

Does anybody know if Verizon has coverage in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan?

 

I can tell you that I use my VZW phone in Juneau and Skagway without any issues. I had never had an issue using a VZW phone in Skagway during tourist season at all (though I've never paid attention to whether I'm calling when the ships are in town or not as I do not cruise AK).

 

I'm not sure about Ketchikan. I haven't been back there and spent any time in 15 years or so. I know I was able to send texts from the airport there in February without issues when I stopped there on the Alaska Airlines milk run.
