cruisehelp Posted April 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2015 We are a family of 10, including 4 children between ages 9 and 11, cruising SB from Whittier to Vancouver in August. Can anyone recommend private tours in Juneau, Ketchican and Skagway that we can take instead of the ship's tours. Thanks.

msmoger Posted April 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Also, since you are already your own small group ;) you should check out the Alaska Boards which is under Ports of Call. There will be tons of information and recommendations. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=

Can anyone recommend private tours in Juneau, Ketchican and Skagway that we can take instead of the ship's tours. Thanks. In Juneau - Harv and Marv for whale watching. In 2012 they had a new boat that held 12 passengers. They used it for our family group of 8 and didn't add any additional passengers (and only charged us for the 8 actual passengers) - see if you could make the same arrangements. The whale watching is phenomenal (this was early August), the crew were great and informative, and it also included a stop at Mendenhall Glacier. sandyss Posted April 8, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2015 For our May cruise, in Skagway we've reserved a full-day private tour to the Yukon with TN Tours. The total cost is around $800 for the minibus and guide. Your group would be a perfect size for their minibus. In Juneau, we are renting a car so that we can do sightseeing on our own - Mendenhall Glacier, the Salmon Hatchery, and several other sights. In Ketchikan, the local bus takes you to Totem Bight and Potlatch parks. When you return to town, you can just walk around the historic area, which is very close to the ship. Rare cr8tiv1 Posted April 8, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2015 I have used Dyer Dave three times. They will meet you in town or at the pier. Have done the ride up the mountain (train is just too crazy with 4 ships in town) and to the town of Dyer.

Gabrielle R. Posted April 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2015 You can also check out Trip Advisor once on the Alaska boards. You can always check the web sites and contact the different businesses My group of 4 were really pleased with our tours... can't remember who we went with for the tours I'd have to look back at the photo album ;)
cruzinfamilyof4 Posted April 12, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2015 In Skagway we used http://www.tntours98.com It was really cool because he told us a lot about the area, if we wanted to stop and see something he would stop, he looked for wildlife, it was much more intimate than I would imagine going on a ship excursion would be. I'd definitely use them again.
Wellybeth Posted April 16, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2015 2nd the recommendation for Harv & Marv for whale watching in Juneau, we were 2 of 6 people on one of their boats last May. They really know they're stuff, Would recommend chilkootcharters for Skagway rail and bus tour. Again small group with personalised service.
