punta arenas on christmas day

hi,we will be on star this year at this time.the ships excursions are not open yet but the aviator website show tours are available on this day.does anyone have experience of tours on christmas day or is it a computer oversight and everywhere is shut?cheers,brian.

We were in Ushuaia last Christmas Day on the Golden Princess and the ship's excursions were operating. We went on one.:)

Punta Arenas (Costa Rica) is not a get off the ship and walk around port so unless there are ship's tours available, I don't know why you would be schedules on Christmas to dock there.

 

This is a port that involved long drives to get to any tourist sites and there is only a two lane highway where the average speed is about 35 mph.

 

I wouldn't chance arranging a private tour in this port and missing the ship.

OK, I thought there might be. That is why I specified Costa Rica in my reply.

 

There was a Princess ship docked there when we passed by last year.

We were in Punta Arenas Chile on Christmas Day 2013 and we went on a penguin excursion. The excursion was awesome but nothing in the town was really open. Lots of excursions though.

Actually there is only one Punta Arenas (two words) which is in southern Chile. There is a town called Puntarenas (one word) in Costa Rica. The pronunciation is very different when you consider the one word vs. two name. Which place are you asking about?

I was in Punta Arenas on Christmas Eve 2014 and Ushuaia on Christmas Day 2014, ship tours were operating in both places, but only a limited number of shops were open, as one might expect.
