cruisevers Posted April 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2015 I am starting to gather things for our May 9 cruise to Alaska. Have been there in September and it was rainy. Should we expect the same in May? Is it generally cooler than September also? I searched but all I find is info for later in the season. Also any special wildlife to look for? I know bear viewing in September is better, so anything better in May?
Northern Aurora Posted April 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2015 May tends to be one of the dryer months in southeast Alaska. Despite living in Alaska we have done Alaskan cruises. We actually did one in May and the weather was the best compared to the other Alaska cruises we've done.

Glaciers Posted April 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2015 This site gives historical weather data for many Alaska communities including temperature and precipitation. http://www.arh.noaa.gov/climate.php?stnid=PAJN&mon=5&yr=2014&obs=true&normals=true&precip=true We too have cruised in May and have had wonderful weather. Certainly no guarantee but as Northern Aurora noted, it’s one of the dryer months. We've also seen it pour the entire month of May...
bottom-dragger Posted April 16, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2015 the lovely mrs b-d and I both have birthdays the end of May. The weather shall be sublime in the middle of southeast. Think of Richard Burton singing to Julie Andrews in Camelot "those are the legal laws"
Rare Lois R Posted May 7, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 7, 2015 I fly to Seattle tomorrow:D and sail on Friday:D I am all packed and not sure why I decided to check weather.com tonite for each port over the next 10 days....I was going to bring a fleece jacket but each port says 50's-60's:)during the day.....I think the fleece may be too much. I still have plenty of long sleeves and some other outerwear but I think I am going to leave the fleece at home. IF I need something warmer, I could always buy a sweatshirt;)
