GeriatricNurse Posted May 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2015 If one becomes a 4* Mariner during a cruise does he/she receive a 4* Mariner pin during the cruise or in the mail sometime after he/she returns home?
Rare boards Posted May 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2015 Thanks for that question, we have reached the 4* Mariner level too and were wondering the same thing. We reached it last Nov. and our next cruise is scheduled for Oct. We have not received the pin yet? Will they have a big party for us??
take us away Posted May 2, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 2, 2015 You should receive your pin on the cruise - probably in your cabin. If not, just ask at the front desk and they will have these sent to you. There will be a Mariner Society affair prior to the luncheon where you will be acknowledged, have a photo with the officers, and you may receive your pin at that event. Bescotti Posted May 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 2, 2015 I became a 4 star Mariner on my cruise last year and the pin was delivered to my cabin - but I don't get the benefits such as free laundrey until my next cruise. One of my trivia team mates also reached 4 star status a couple of days earlier and also had her pin delivered to her cabin. Neither of us were invited to or acknowledged at the Mariner Society function on board.

Those who are on cruises that the number of days in the cruise cause you to move up to a new level could get their pin on the that cruise. If your spending bonus moves you up, that would not be determined until after the cruise. Previous threads on this subject have had responses that people received their pins in the mail a couple of weeks after the cruise. If you have not, I would contact the Mariners Society. Based on our experience this past January, this is the system for being awarded your 4-star Mariner pin. When we had not received our pins by the end of March, I dropped the MS a note and promptly received them in the mail. Rod
Rare boards Posted May 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) We gained the status of 4* Mariner's with the help of credit days due to our spending on the last cruise, so we are now at the 4* level. Our next cruise will be our first as 4* Mariners, so we should receive the perks that go with it and receive our pin then. We will just have to wait and see Right??? maysdot Posted May 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 2, 2015 If one becomes a 4* Mariner during a cruise does he/she receive a 4* Mariner pin during the cruise or in the mail sometime after he/she returns home? On my last cruise I reached 204 days...so 4* status. A couple of weeks after I got home I checked my status on the HAL website and it showed the number of days, but still only 3*. I phoned the Mariner's Society and they mailed me my 4* pin. At that time I also went into the website and subscribed to the Travel + Leisure magazine.....that was in Feb....I received my first copy this week. On another CC posting I read that one member told another that after receiving your bronze medal you would be invited to all other medal ceremonies. I have never been invited to one since receiving my bronze medal. I just checked the HAL mariner's website and see that the silver medal is only presented to passengers who have sailed over 300 days, so guess I will never get invited to another pre-Mariner's lunch. It also says that you will be mailed your 4* pin after you achieve that status.
VioletHorse Posted May 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted May 2, 2015 On our last HAL cruise, DH became 2* mid-cruise and received his pin in our cabin. I became 3* on the last day of the cruise and didn't receive a pin, so post-cruise I sent an email to the Mariners Society and received one in the mail within a couple of days. DeeniEncinitas Posted May 2, 2015 #11 Share Posted May 2, 2015 We became 4* on our last cruise in March. Received our pin in our stateroom with a nice letter. Now on our next cruise in Europe in 2016 we will be able to have the perks! i was told that the only way you get to have the benefits as 4* at sea is if you are on a world cruise when you reach the number of days at sea. Rare POA1 Posted May 2, 2015 #12 Share Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) We hit four stars on our cruise in December. Our status shows four stars if we log in to the HAL site, but other than that, no acknowledgement. It's been over 20 weeks, so we think our pins are being delivered by hand - by a messenger traveling on foot - using crutches, because he's got one bad leg. Seattle is really far from Fort Lauderdale, and the weather hasn't been great. Or they forgot. But that seems unlike them. :D Edited May 2, 2015 by POA1

sail7seas Posted May 2, 2015 #15 Share Posted May 2, 2015 We got our Four Star Pin in the Mail but we were way over the 200 days when they instituted the new Star Mariner Program. I have seen people get their pins on the ships as well as heard they received them in the mail. Maybe you can call Mariners Society and request which way you prefer. 800-547-9139

PathfinderEss Posted May 2, 2015 #17 Share Posted May 2, 2015 Sometimes you get your pins on the ship, sometimes they are mailed to you. If you know you've made 4* and you haven't gotten your pins shoot an email off to the Mariner Society.

Denise :) It is on any Grand (world, So America, Med - and Asia if it ever comes back) cruise where you immediately get the benefits when you change star level. Our pins and a nice letter were in the cabin on the day we were eligible. We got our 4 stars in Hong Kong years ago, knew we would get the benefits and had laundry backed up for sending out for several days in a row. You do need to go to the front desk and get a new room card as the discounts are in the magnetic strip.

the2ofus Posted May 3, 2015 #23 Share Posted May 3, 2015 I think the confusion about who is invited to the Mariners' Reception and the Mariners' Brunch/Lunch has to do with which cruise you have sailed. When there is a large contingent of Mariners onboard, you might only get invited to the Reception if you are going to receive a Medal or if you have a really high number of HAL actual cruise days. These folks are then escorted to the Brunch/Lunch. Usually all Mariners are invited to the Mariners Brunch/Lunch which follows the Reception. I have known a Silver medal holder who was not invited to the reception due to time and space issues because there were so many Platinum level Mariners and new Bronze level Mariners on that cruise. Even though my Dear Sis was receiving a Bronze medal and I already had mine, I was not invited until I requested to be there to applaud her. (We were sharing a cabin on that cruise and they knew we were sisters.) You just never know. It never hurts to inquire at the Front Office as to when the event will be held and if you are eligible to attend.
sail7seas Posted May 4, 2015 #24 Share Posted May 4, 2015 By all means if you wish to go to either the Medallion Reception and/or the Brunch and do not receive an invitation, inquire. No reason to stay silent and unhappy when it could have been a simple clerical error. If you ask and are still refused, hmmm, not good.
the2ofus Posted May 4, 2015 #25 Share Posted May 4, 2015 You need to ask about the Mariners' Reception and Brunch/Lunch at the beginning of the cruise, if you think you are eligible. The event is scheduled on a day and a time convenient for the Captain and other staff and is by written invitation only so you won't see it on any schedule. By the time you hear about it through the grapevine, the event will be over.
