pinkie1 Posted May 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2015 I haven't heard any info on Royal having a routine itinerary on the West Coast, especially leaving from southern California, lately. Does anyone have any info on it and why Royal has abandoned us left coasters?:(

Does anyone have any info on it and why Royal has abandoned us left coasters?:( There are a very few cruises this year out of California. Royal does not regularly cruise out of California because they can make more money elsewhere.

pinkie1 Posted May 5, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted May 5, 2015 Yeah, I saw those few cruises in May and Oct. Carnival has two ships out here and seem to be making plenty of money from what I can tell. I'm getting tired of Carnival and want my Royal back.:( Even Princess is here and seems to be doing fine. Sorry, I'm just pouting, wishing my favorite cruise line would come back,:p

Leaves out of Vancouver (but you wanted to leave from Southern California) and ends up in Los Angeles. The Explorer Of The Seas is doing a similar itinerary September 2016 as well as Celebrity’s Infinity September 2016.
AZ Karaoke Girl Posted May 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 5, 2015 I also wish Royal would come back to California. I'm from Arizona & like to cruise out of southern CA because I don't have to fly. All other ports I have to fly.

Tried to do that itinerary on PCL...something just seemed off...wasn't impressed with the PCL product and not interested in Carnival etc. Darn RCI for deserting us here on the west coast :( In the mean time flights to ports are the option we have had to take. norfolk53golf Posted May 7, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Hi All, we were on the Mariner back in 2011 on a Mexican Riviera cruise when it was announced that Royal would be ceasing cruises out of Los Angeles. The reason we were given was that the port fees had become too much and it was no longer feasible.

dadroy Posted May 7, 2015 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2015 The numbers give the reason RC is not on the left coast. For the industry drop from 1.2 million passengers in 2005 to 600k in 2011 means there was a big drop in profit. And these numbers do not include many Carnival sailings since they sail from Long Beach. YEAR port calls passengers avg per ship 2005 272 1,218,739 2,240 2006 265 1,184,223 2,234 2007 255 1,161,663 2,278 2008 265 1,195,897 2,256 2009 162 798,886 2,466 2010 147 731, 952 2,490 2011 136 608,386 2,237 2012 98 426,073 2,174 2013 99 430,189 2,172 2014 128 578,

The average cruiser probably doesn't even realize there is a difference. Kinda like NYC and Cape Liberty. It's all NY

Pretty sure it has its own MSA I "know" San Diego is a "real" city...but many on these boards just refer to us as the west coast aka left coast...there's more to us than that ;)
