Just returned from the Getaway

Well our first cruise on the Getaway was fantastic!!!! We had a spa mini suite 14752. The bed was so comfortable and the shower jets were the best after a long day. Our cabin steward was great and very attentive. We are platinum and did have two free meals with a bottle of wine. I know I read somewhere on here that NCL had reduced it to one if both cruisers were platinum but that was not the case with us. We also had a bottle of champagne on ice which is a great way to start off toasting your cruise. There was also a four piece box of Godiva chocolates.

As for eating well we got a little spoiled the first time we had prime rib at O'Sheehans. We ended up going there three nights just for it. We at twice at Cagney's which was really good just as it always is and once at La Cucina which was also very good. Ate breakfast twice and lunch once in the buffet. It was good and the food was warm. Big selection and there were not long lines which I had figured there would be with over 4000 people onboard. We also had the UBP which we received from a promo and we did make great use of this promo.

We went and saw Burn the Floor and are those dancers ever talented we thoroughly enjoyed this show it is not to be missed. We spent some time in the casino, which was very good to us. Be sure and play the penny quick hits we hit for $7500 and paid for our trip. My husband was so excited he could hardly contain himself.

We didn't get off at any of the ports we have been to all of them numerous times and the port at Tortola is under so much construction it just was not very inviting. We did meet some two great couples from Connecticut and had many fun times hanging out with them.

The smoking area poolside was disappointing. It is a small room with chairs on three walls and was very packed at times. What was maddening was that people around the pool would come in and take the chairs, which was in my opinion a very bold thing to do. There were plenty of loungers so I didn't understand why the chairs were needed.

We didn't feel like we were nickel and dimed by any means. We didn't order room service because of the new fee implemented and on others cruises we always have but I didn't miss it.

Embarkation and debarkation was very smooth. I am in a wheelchair so we were the first on which made it much easier than waiting and getting on with everyone else. Debarkation was just as smooth went off without a hitch.

All in all we just had a wonderful time and the Getaway is a beautiful ship and I hope to cruise her again.

I probably shouldn't, but I'm going to comment on that smoking area. When I was on my cruise, the chairs were set up differently with rows facing each other. People likely took the chairs because they were cushioned and better than theirs. With my mouth, it's good for you I wasn't there:D

I read that if you were in a suite you did have to pay the 7.95 fee. I was hoping that it was for a mini suite also. Love my coffee in the morning to enjoy on the balcony !!

Mini Suite is not same category as a suite. It is just a really nice cabin.

Room service morning coffee has no fee for any cabin type by 10am.

Sadie Cat: question for you. We are on the Getaway May 23rd and my husband too is in a wheelchair. Was your cabin accessible? Also, as for boarding, we know it's priority (were on Epic in March), but were you able to go directly to your cabin when boarding? We are only Silver, but that doesn't seem to make a difference when dealing with a wheelchair.

No our cabin was not accessible, but we had room for it. We did not go directly to our cabin. We went for lunch and then up to the pool deck.

Glad you enjoyed, congrats on hitting the slots! Did you save your dailies, would love to see them, we are new to NCL, normally do RCL and have lots of questions as we want to plan dinner reservations etc.

Suzy, plan all your dinners at 7pm and you will be fine to see later shows. In fact, you might fall asleep BEFORE the show starts as many start at 10 or 10:30pm. Allow one night to see the Illusionarium show. Understand the meal is so-so - you might want to schedule a fantastic lunch that day. (We had sushi.)

No sorry I did not save the dailies. I hope you love NCL as much as we do. We made our dinner reservations each day we wanted to go to a specialty restaurant and had no trouble getting in.

Glad you had fun and congrats in the amazing win. Just want to say that the slot jackpot win is borderline winning a small lottery in terms of odds. Slots are huge money sinks and "the house" makes a killing with them. If you're inclined to gamble a few hundred bucks, I'd head for the Black Jack tables where odds of coming ahead are fairly decent (compared to any other casino game).
