Adventure of Seas - Junior suite vs Balcony

Recommended Posts

Need some input.

My next cruise will be June 2016 on Adventure of the Seas and I'm trying to decide if the junior suite is worth the extra $$ over a standard superior ocean view balcony room.

Thanks

What is the total difference in cost?

Depends on the cost difference. It's a bigger room, much nicer closet space, double C&A points, and the balcony should have a lounger as well as the 2 chairs and table.

We've usually book a category D balcony which we really like. We have also stayed in junior suites. We find the balcony rooms on Royal roomy and comfortable so the price premium for the junior suite is generally not worth it for us.

On Princess we always book a mini-suite, but that is because their regular balcony rooms are tiny compared to Royal...not even a love seat.

We've never done a suite before so I was thinking this might be our first one. The double c&a points is something I didn't know about.

The cost difference isn't too bad.

I was mostly interested in the perspective of the room from someone who's stayed in one so that was very helpful.

Thank you :)

It's not much different from a regular balcony cabin, other than it's a bit wider, has a tub and the walk-in closet. And being a bit wider, it has a larger balcony.

It doesn't have the suite perks that come with full suites, just the double points.

How many people are going? If more than 2, it could be worth it just for the bigger room.

It's a nicer room, but again, it's not all that much different which is why people are asking about the price difference, which can range from very little to multiple thousands depending on the cruise.

We have always booked a balcony aft near the elevator but for our Anniversary celebration cruise we decided to try a Jr. suite. This was our 3rd cruise on adventure 4/26/15 this sailing and we thought it was well worth the extra $300. per person for our special occasion. the bathroom has a bath tub. Even if you don't use the tub it is way more room to move around in the shower. We also liked the walk in closet. There was a nice sitting area with sofa ,table & 2 chairs as well as more cabinet space than we needed. First time we had empty cabinets. There is more room to walk around & room on the balcony for table ,2 chairs & lounge chair. The move to suite gave us double points & almost made us Diamond with C&A. You will pay more in tips as well but we feel they deserve every penny & more for the hard work they do to keep us comfortable all week. We wont always book a suite again but for special occasions it is a nice treat.

I agree with most everything you posted as the JS is the catagory we usually always book....more like a hotel room to us. However the increased tips start at the GS catagory not the JS catagory.

We're booked on the AOS for a B2B May 2016 and looking forward to our hump JS :D

For us it's strictly dollars. If the cost of a JS gets close to $100pp difference, we have upgraded from our standard E3 balcony. The extra room is nice, but not all that important to us.

You do get a silver seapass card, which as it turns out, doesn't really get you anything. Double C&A points may be of some value to you if cruise a lot and are chasing a higher status.

Enjoy your cruise.

My GF and I are going on the AOS next Apr. We originally book an Aft Balcony but ended up upgrading to a an Aft JS right next to our original cabin. The double C&A points will push us to the next level. We are really looking forward to this cruise. All the information was nice to learn.

I had looked into the Jr Suite it was over $1000 difference (which almost doubled the price) and on such a port intensive cruise I could not justify the cost. I figured from 8ish until 6ish will be in port most days, then dinner, and casino/bar....will mostly be sleeping in room.

If it was less port time and more sea days, I could have probably sold myself.

Now on the flip side, we are spending 3 nights in San Juan before and plan to spend some more time in the room, so we spent the extra money and got a Spa Suite at La Concha

Been on the Adventure many times (more than any other RCCL ship) and have stayed in standard Balcony cabins most of the time. If the deal is right, my wife and I will go for a bigger room (got a GS for $2600.00 total once).

Anyway, we stayed in a JS for the first time last month. We liked the extra room, the bathtub (great shower), and the large walk in closet (I got dressed in there in the morning so as not to wake my wife). Other than the extra space and the double C&A points, it really isn't that much of a big deal. However, if the price was right (less than $2500.00 total) I would stay in a JS again.

A JS does have some added perks in addition to the double points. Priority boarding, robes, coffee/tea maker, bathtub.

To the OP, why not try an aft balcony? It would give you a bit more room without the added price of a JS.

Seems to be about $1,200 more for both of us for the 7 day cruise, if I were to book it now.

We maybe sailing the same time as you next year. We also looked into getting a JS until we saw the price difference.:eek::eek:

Seeing as we will be staying in San Juan 2 days prior to sailing, it was not worth it!

A JS on Adventure is 264 sq ft with a 75 sq ft balcony. A Superior Ocean View Balcony Cabin is 179 sq ft with a 52 sq ft balcony. Quite a bit of difference IMHO.:p

Pretty sure loungers on JS are rare except aft and the ships with deep hump cabins. Even then you have to ask for one some of the time. We even had our cabin steward try and remove it in last night once.

We have always had loungers when in a JS on the Liberty, Independence, Navigator, Brilliance, Oasis and Allure. None were aft cabins so I thought all JS had loungers.

That has been our experience too, the overwhelming majority of times. Rarely, we have a JS with no lounger, but the stateroom attendant has always been able to get one.

Our Legend hump didn't have one in December. We have 5 booked in next 2 years, 3 are aft and I expect to see them there, but 2 are Freedom humps and I really don't expect to see them. But I will ask. ;)

BTW, we also have the end balcony on deck 12, I may see if I can grab one from St Tropez.

I'm going in my first JS next week, and the difference was $500.00. It's a "special" event cruise, and I felt it was worth it. However, I have never seen the price this low since I booked it. It only lasted a few days. Now if it was $1200.00 I would not do it. A balcony is just fine.
