QV Verandah Restaurant

Does the menu always remain exactly the same? Is there an outside area to eat as well? Are men required to wear a tie? How long should one allow for having dinner?

I love the verandah, It was a well worth the change form the Todd English which I found overly rich and a little stuffy.

The ambience of the new Verandah is much more pleasant.

The menu changes a couple of times a year. Its not a meal to be rushed, even if I dine there on my own i would take 1.5 to 2 hours, Im sure if you had something to go to they would taylor the meal service to match, but for the extra outlay and the silver service why rush?

The dress code is the same as the rest of the ship after 6pm. So if its a formal night, then yes, formal wear is required. No outdoor area for the restaurant, it is located at on deck 4, one level above the promenade deck.

Well worth the extra charge, there is also a really nice bar at the back of the restaurant which in my mind is under-utilised.

There is a outdoor speciality restaurant up on the top deck around the pool.

  • The menu is set, and may change once a year maybe ? They occasionally have a special evening, with wine pairing, that may have the odd extra dish.
  • There is no outside area.
  • The dress code for the entire ship for that evening applies.
  • Dinner takes as long as it would in a fine restaurant on land. Anyhow, it is so pleasant that one would wish it to last longer. The Verandah is rarely packed tough, an the service is excellent and diligent.

On QV last July (Med cruise) the food was so disappointing in the Britannia (which was our opinion others loved it) we ate in the Verandah nearly every evening. It made our voyage, worth every penny. The food, ambience and service were outstanding and we chose to make an early 6:30pm reservation, had a beautiful table by the window and found on average we had finished about 8:45pm, certainly not a place to be rushed and we were so full afterwards! Fortunate to have tried almost everything on the menu and have clear favourites, it certainly looks a lot more attractive than the Verandah menu on the QE which we are trying this summer, not pigeon lovers!

I really can recommend the seafood platter for starters, followed by the surf and turf, followed by the coconut dessert. And as for the warm baby baguettes served with garlic we used to get through two baskets !! Ask for Jose, he will treat you like royalty, I wanted to bring him home with me :)

Yes the little bar at the back of the Verandah restaurant is so under used and is a best kept secret , it makes a nice change from using one of the other venues for a pre dinner cocktail, prior to a meal in the Verandah. ;)

We booked the Verandah on the QV after enjoying our experience on the QE last year. The food, the service and the ambience is excellent. We were in Queen Grills and very pleased with the food and service there but the Verandah is top notch. We are looking forward to returning. If a ship restaurant could be given a Michelin star then from our Experince on the 7th August, this place deserves it.

I hope you didn't rush, and just enjoyed the Experience.

I visited the Verandah on QV two weeks ago at lunch time. I am not a foodie but I had a free voucher for one person because I am now at diamond level and decided to try it out, taking along the friend who was travelling with me plus two other friends.

We had a great time because of the company and the ambience. My friend is used to visiting good restaurants and his judgement was that the food is little better than that in the Britannia. The service could have been better: our friends were only drinking water and their glasses were left empty for some time.

I will certainly go again and use my free voucher on future cruises. The charge is small so it is worth the extra for the change in atmosphere.

I was amused by the breakdown on the bill I received. For each person it was detailed as $3 for extra food charge and $12 for the service. In other words, they don't think their food is worth that much more than Britannia's! :D

I agree with fantasy, we have eaten there several times and didn't think the food was much better than Britannia. Also the lunch menu was very limited. However, we have never had supper there as we have never thought it worth it.

On our last trip we had the afternoon tea. We have had a lot of afternoon teas as I do a comparison of them (hopefully soon to be online). It is rare for us to dislike anything offered. However, the one in the verandah was very odd and we left most if the savoury section. Also we were given mini jam pots that had already been opened and tea bags on a saucer. Service was awful, it took them forever to get us some more water for the tea bag. They didn't score well!!

We have in the past thought we'd like to try the Verandah, but when we have looked at the menus, their vegetarian choices were very poor indeed - if available at all!

On one trip we tried to book the Degustation menu with wine pairings, but they flatly refused to accommodate me! We got our Butler to see if he could arrange something, but again they just said a very emphatic no!

Now we just don't bother.

Our experienes of the Verandah have been great. The evenings for us have been a gastronomic Event. I would consider it worth leaving Queens Grill for an evening.

Bit confused here ? Couldn't accommodate you ?? ..There are times when this restaurant is so popular that all tables are fully booked ..just because one is in the grills doesn't mean you can jump the queue. :)

Sorry to sound blunt here :) But don't you think your expectations are a little too high. You wish to move from one venue to another and still expect to eat off menu. I believe the Verandah has one or two options other than meat (unless you are a strict vegetarian ?)

We are great fans of the Verandah, with a slight preference for the one on QE. We like the menu on QE a bit better, and the décor is genuinely Verandah, while on QV it is still the old Todd English, minus the drapes.

The Verandah serves excellent and authentic French food, and believe me I know . I think it is so good that I wish the Queen’s Grill would serve similar food, which it unfortunately does not. There are always the special requests, but I have been a bit disappointed in my few attempts at special order. You have little control on how they will prepare the food that you require, and frankly, I do not want to spell out for the chef how to prepare the food I order. Therefore, in the Queen’s Grill, we usually order A La carte, or occasionally from the daily menu if there is something nice, but for real gastronomic enjoyment, we dine at the Verandah, which we find incredible value for money. If I had a criticism, it would be that the selection, while authentically French, is understandably biased to the kind of things that the Anglo-American clientele would like. Also, it would be good to see the menu change from time to time. For a short cruise, it is not a problem, but if one dines there often, as we tend to do, repetition should be avoided.

We recently had a slight problem booking a table. One afternoon I called the restaurant, and was told that they did not have a table for us at the time we asked for (8ish). I left it at that and booked for the next night. That evening, I mentioned the thing to the Senior Maitre d’ at the Queen’s Grill, who I understand oversees all the restaurants. He was surprised, called the Verandah, then escorted us downstairs personally and found us a good table. The Verandah Maitre d’ apologised and explained that they apparently try to regulate the number of bookings because they cannot be sure of when a table will become available, many diners tending to stay much longer than they would in the MDR. The lesson is probably that in case a booking cannot be had, it is still possible to walk in. If one has to wait a little for a table, there is a nice bar in the restaurant, where one can have a cocktail or a glass of Champagne. Also, formal nights tend to be more busy.
