How exactly dies CAS work?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain the function of CAS? Does it rent space on the ship for the casino? Does it give a percentage to NCL? Is it a separate entity or a subsidiary of NCL? Does NCL have any control over CAS policies? Is it a separate booking agency or part of NCL booking? I would love a clear explanation. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a Google project. Let us know what you learn.

Precisely. This is not public knowledge, so it will be interesting to see what you can surface.

Unlike the spa, which is branded as an outside company, the Casino is presented as an integral part of NCL.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's owned by NCL, as a P & L center which has to account for the freebies & incentives it offers players.

It's probably tasked with returning a certain % of play, or a certain % of that week's revenue.

Good luck. Do let us know what you find out.

It's a mystery for sure. I have heard that NCL has no control over CAS policies. I have also heard that CAS is a booking agent for NCL. And I've heard that it is 100% NCL. But no one seems to understand just how it works or who determines policy.

I think there is a cone of silence happening here

Cone of confusion for sure. Seems like a pretty straightforward question' date=' but apparently, no known answer.[/quote']

No known answer, but NCL was partially owned by two different casino companies.... which to my mind suggests they run their own shop on board...or the investors would have had conflicts of interest.

I don't know for sure either, but my guess is it comes down from NCL. The changes all started at the same time as FDR took over, and the way they happened with no warning makes me believe it even more.

I remember hearing changes were planned before Sheehan left. The perks that came with making Golden started changing last year. The casino hosts were telling us new changes were coming and that they hoped there would be some 'exciting new benefits'....which I haven't seen yet

That is true, but more changes happened quickly as soon as FDR came. The points expiring and going back to zero for instance, and the new thing on Breakaway reported that if you go over the type of free drink you get with the card, they only allocate $5 to it and you pay the rest. They also changed the Theo you need to hit to $2800 from $2000 and now they are no longer considering the time spent as part of your ability to earn points.

That's so true! Couldn't believe they reset you to zero. This isn't a land-based casino you visit several times a year. Most people can only cruise once a year.

Some of the changes took place before FDR -

No more Cagney's or VIP treatment for Golden or VIP

No more free spa passes now it's a credit

No more free cigarettes

To be fair, these are what I remember before FDR.

This is all good info. Thanks everyone. Still leaves me a little unclear as to who is setting these "exciting new Benefits," which of course are neither exciting nor benefits.

Genting Group (Resorts World) is part owner of Norwegian Cruise Lines and runs the casinos.

Yes but Apollo runs Caeser's entertainment. I looked it up yesterday when I read that Genting was selling off its stock. I wanted to see if Total rewards would stop being a partner since now you can only use them for suite discounts

My understanding is that CAS is no longer discounting suites but you can use TR for a discount on any category, including suites.

Owner partial, totally, or not at all, it probably does not matter.

CAS has been in a continual rework of it's players club for many years now. They never are quite sure what the rules are and can not even keep their website up to date.

Add into that the high number of variables based on level of play, availability of cabins, periodic shifts in booking decisions and you really will not figure it all out.

Even in land based casinos, the ability to get comps moves up and down often based on supply and demand and whims of mgmt.

So true. But unfortunately, with CAS the direction has never been up, just a continual downward slide of decreasing benefits to players.

per casino at seas rep no more discounting of suites with a TR card. Yet on Harrahs website NCL is listed as a TR partner and shows the discounts.

Also as hot you would get a comp meal and drinks at a speciality restaurant. you still get the meal but have to pay for the drinks now. this occurred on the may 10th breakaway sailing I was on.
