Anthem of the seas review .....

Recommended Posts

Must admit that i always use MDR for Dinner, Lunch on Sea days and Breakfast if room service not possible .... I dislike the bun fight in all buffet restaurants on any ship, pushing, shoving, hygiene issues and then having to find a seat and "guard it" during the rest of your meal

Out of interest on Anthem how often did they change/rotate the two menus in the 4 restaurants ? Was this daily rotation or weekly ??

they changed it twice in the 10 days :)

Well, we were always going to disagree  but I really must question . I cannot see how you can say that the shoe-box ambiance of the Royal Promenade is more enticing and exciting and interesting than the wonderful design, décor and layout of Anthem.

If anyone wants a slightly more positive review feel free to read mine and ask questions - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2211126

I believe you're being unfair to me little Britain.

I said that's my opinion.

I in no way slated the ship.

It was the tech that lost my bookings that cheesed me off. nothing else.

...still shaking my head in disbelief.

because that's their opinion, and they're entitled to it.

I do believe they have back tracked .........

I like formal nights.

you don't ...... and I'm on again in October !

Did you get the classic dining table size you requested and did you have any empty seats? (Assuming you didn't do a table for two!)

Two weeks to go!

yes, we got a great table and fantastic service from our "couldn't do enough for you" waiting staff.

The fact we could walk in every night saying table 104 and getting sat down immediately was perfect :)

Great initial review Stitchman and it was fantastic to meet you & Ann. The people on board in October will be blessed with your presence. Cruises are enhanced by people with your spirit and adventure. I wouldn't have had the bottle to do some of the things you did but what an entertainer.

What I would add is that I found most of the staff wonderful but there wasn't enough of them. Getting a drink at times was a pain!!(especially in the Theatre)

I spent several days looking for a lounger on the decks but couldn't get one. Whether the number of people on board exceed the amount of loungers, I wouldn't know, but it doesn't help with the Ship policy of just handing out towels.

The food was generally very good and I agree about Devinly Decadence, so good I did it twice.

The booking issue is with the RCI website, I would suggest they look into this. some bookings were mixed up and lost and I had to sort it out when I got onboard. The Puzzle Break was fully booked on the 2nd day for the entire cruise but I got in later as a party of 8 never turned up. Found it quite challenging and would have been lost if we never had someone's 10 year old in the group lol

All in all, a lovely ship and I am sure the 1st timers will absolutely love it. Would I do it again?? Probably not as I preferred the Freedom Class ship but hey, its all about opinions I guess.

I also fully agree about the itinery, 2 short stops in 5 does not make it Port intensive.

Honestly was recently on the quantum. It was a huge dissappointment. We enjoy the oasis class and will stick to it. Also enjoy the Freedom class. The biggest negative of our Quantum experience was the crowds. The crowds are better managed on the other classes. Waiting on line, even with reservations on vacation isn't relaxing IMO. Fortuantely, we had a suite and a private restaurant and prority seating at shows. Our family members weren't so lucky. Yes, the technology is interesting, but waiting 1 1/2 hours to spend a few minutes on the North star or bumper cars takes away much of the enjoyment. Too each his/her own. We cancelled our Anthem cruise for next year.

  • 1 month later...

Hi I'm on Anthem of Seas on 18 July 14 night med cruise.

Does anyone know if you can buy meclizine anti sickness tablets on board.

Most UK tablets don't work for me, I've heard these ones are great but can only buy from USA and I'm too late for delivery now.

Maybe they have them in medical centre ?

Do you pay to go to medical centre ?

Thanks

Thanks for the review. We are looking to book Anthem for July 28th from Bayonne, NJ. I have been a bit concerned about some of the negative reviews but trying not to let it get in the way. We are from NJ and have never sailed out of our own state. The lack of need for airfare and hotels should be a huge plus for this cruise. I hope at least.

Hi all.

Just back from the 22nd of may canaries cruise.

BOARDING ....... faultless.

SHOWS ....... All bookings lost from account.

IFLY ....... booking lost.

ROCK CLIMBING ...... I'm a spider.

270 arena ....... The most stunning and impressive venue.

SEAPLEX ...... lack of seating ruins this area .... but how could you fit it in ??

I can't comment on the speciality restaurants as (apart from the odd "warm meal" the 4 main restaurants were great. However, the best restaurant was divinely decadence...... brilliant !

POOL AREA ...... personally, it's too small, reminded me of island escape ....... sorry :(

NORTH STAR ...... didn't use it due to queues, not that they were too big, I just couldn't be bothered, but it looked great :)

BIONIC BAR ......... quirky but didn't do beer lol.

MUSIC HALL ...... great venue, and I sang with "rock the boat" !!

CASINO ...... rubbish, I lost a grand !! but you can smoke in there :)

JAMIES ITALIAN ....... got a bit of a bad rap on board, didn't use it so I can't really say anything.

ROYAL NIGHT ....... could have been so much more, but due to its lack of advertisement, it lost the edge a bit. Most people hadn't seen it in the cruise compass.

CLASSIC DINING ...... worked very well indeed ... impressed !!

OVERALL ....... its a lovely ship, but there were so many people (including myself) that kept comparing it with indy.

It lacks the opulence and grandeur of the voyager and freedom class ships. that's a shame. It feels like they've gone backwards with the quantum class ships.

That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

However, a lot of people raved about it too.

I'm sure I can write much more but if you need answers to any questions, please ask :)

We're 347 days out, how far in a advance can you book dining, entertainment?

Unfortunately not until 90 days out. Classic dining and specialty you can do at any time but not the dynamic. Shows also 90 days.

Can someone explain the lay out of this ship? There's no promenade? Where are the shops, and most important the coffee shop open all day? Our last cruise we did an inside promenade room and loved it. Are my only inside options the ones with the screen? I was so looking forward to this ship. Planning on June 2016. Thanks for any info!

The promenade is called the esplanade of Anthem.
