Coupons on SeaPass Card

Recommended Posts

We're going on a cruise next month and - with your help - I'm hoping to prevent a frustrating situation that occurred on our last cruise.

This was the situation: I went up to the bar and asked for an alcoholic beverage and requested to use one of the C&A Platinum coupons that was on the card. I hadn't used any of the coupons yet. The bartender swiped my card and told me, "Nope, I don't see that coupon on here. You must have used it." I found that strange, but had no way to prove him wrong. I paid full price for the drink. Later that day, I went to the desk and asked for a print out of all the coupons that I hadn't used. Sure enough, the drink coupon was on there. The representative said that she couldn't adjust the price of that drink, which I understood.

The critic in me thinks that the bartender purposely overlooked the coupon so that his gratuity would be higher.

Has this happened to anyone else with the paperless coupons? Any suggestions on what to do if a similar situation arises on our next cruise?

Thanks for your input.

The only coupon we really use is the BOGO drink coupon, very hit and miss in terms of ease of use though.

On Allure it took 2 days and about 6 different bartenders before we finally found one that could "use" the coupon. Even then he used the coupon by ringing up two beers and then "voiding" one out to get the right amount, rather than actually applying the coupon.

Vision of the Seas, I had a drink package and was never able to convince any of the bartenders that I would like to pay to order a drink so that I could use the coupon to get a 2nd drink for free and then give both drinks to my wife. After about 3-4 attempts, I just gave up on that and went to enjoy my free drinks.

Indy was much stricter about it being only for glasses of beer or wine, but once we negotiated a suitable set of drinks that met the bartenders approval, applied the coupon no problem.

Jewel of the Seas, first bartender we asked applied them no problem, too drinks that I am pretty sure didn't qualify for the coupon to start with (She asked if we wanted to use the coupon and I figured if she could make it work, why not!).

I am pretty sure the BOGO is for wine or beer and doesn't include alcohol. These were the old coupons for Platinum, and I'm sure the drink portion is still the same. So if you ordered a alcoholic drink, it wouldn't have been on there.

I agree, no BOGO on cocktails. Years ago they had that, but was eliminated on the last version of the paper booklets.

How do you get these now if not as paper coupons. Haven't been on RCCL in awhile.

They are automatically added to your onboard account. You will have a letter in your stateroom with a list of your coupons.

Sure, refuse the drink. By the way tips on bartender slips are pooled. No, never happened.

Maybe I should clarify my original post:

I wanted to get a beer and use the 10% off coupon.

You should have been able to use it. There are times when you have to tell them up front that you don't want the drink unless you can use the coupon.

For the wine/ beer coupon, can you order one wine (that would be me) and one beer (that would be dh) and one us free? Or do they have to be the same?

Give it a try, but I suspect they want you to buy two of the same thing.

In regards to the drink coupons, the best advice is try it and see.

First few cruises we had the paper coupons, we didn't really read the fine print, ordered two bottles of beer, waved the coupon, taken care of no problem.

Last cruise before they went paperless, the waiter pointed out that the coupon says a "glass" and bottles weren't eligible, no problem, order two draft beers instead, all good.

Allure - first time paperless, make a point of ordering two drafts at the pub, request the coupon, waiter cant make it work. Moved to the schooner bar, same deal. Tried a different waiter at the schooner, same deal. Day two at schooner, the waiter disappears for about 20 minutes, comes back with two bottles of corona, says it only works on "bottles" and hands us a slip with the second corona voided. Works for me.

Indy - Pretty sure we mixed up beer (draft) and wine on the same orders and got the coupons, don't recall as we were a group of 4 and met up pre-dinner at schooner each night, I know we all drank different things and all used up our coupons but don't recall exactly how it worked.

Jewel - each ordered a cocktail, waitress offered to use the coupon, it worked no problem. Second night, same drill using my wife's coupon.

Motto of the story - With RCI all things are possible, even if they insist they aren't, but you will never figure out how it happened and will probably never be able to repeat it either.

[*](2202) Receive 15% off any Spa or Salon service (Not applicable to media-spa services)

Do you think this discount could be applied the thermal suite unlimited use package offered on some of the ships? Or is this just for a specific, single spa treatment (e.g. massage, facial, etc)

This has happened to me before, also. The system doesn't call up the coupons. However, I always request my free drinks with an upfront $1 tip when I hand them the card. :D:D They just give me the drink since they can see the C&A status right on the card. I've also gone to Guest Services and had them check my card to make sure everything is loaded correctly.

I didn't realize you could get a print out of the coupons. The might be the best option. A lot easier to keep track of and know what you have versus the 'electronically' loaded ones. I will try that on the next cruise, thanks!
