Does Viking ever upgrade people to a better cabin?

If so, how does it happen?

Is there a way of contacting a customer care group to ask?

As I've never traveled with and never will with Viking I can't give you an answer specifically but I do know that with Tauck their cruises sell out very quickly and simply never have any cabins for upgrades. I would think that this would be the norm with most RC lines.

On my river cruises, I know that passengers have upgraded on board, but not for a discount.

 

Cannot speak for Viking as I do not travel with them.

Uniworld provides a 1 level upgrade to returning guests should it be available. This does not apply to suites though.

On our Viking cruise the first night they announced that they did have a few cabins available for upgrades, but it wasn't clear if a free upgrade or a paid upsell. We had already unpacked, so didn't inquire. I think most of the time the ships sail full, or nearly so.

 

I thought I read once that someone was offered an upgrade, but it was actually a paid upsell with no discount.

We were actually upgraded on our first river cruise. We had booked aquarium class and when we got to the boat, we were on the main deck--a Uniworld trip. 19 cruises later we along with 3 other couples were upgraded to suites on the Viking Emerald in China. Viking will upgrade you after I think 3 cruises--don't know about the rules on the other lines. Pat

We were upgraded on our last Viking cruise. We're told a few weeks out. It was our 4th Viking cruise

One of AMA's past-passenger benefits is a one-category upgrade (at 1/2 cost on your third cruise, free after that) -- but this is at time of booking.

We got an offer of an "upsell," on our Vantage cruise, last year, but turned it down. I haven't heard of any free upgrades.
