Hi All,

We are sailing with the Ocean Princess on June 20th. What I am trying to find out is if Princess brings a Russian Folk Show on board during the over night stay in St. Petersburg. I know that they offer a tour that goes to see a local show. I was just trying to see if they had one that came on the ship to do a show. Anyway, I appreciate any information that you can give.

They had one last summer on the Royal. It was so-so.

I would imagine it depends on the cruise director. He or she is responsible for booking the entertainment.

When we were in St. Petersburg (in 2007) on the Star Princess there was a folkloric show on the night in port. It was the best show in the entire cruise.

We were on the Ocean Princess in 2013 also. There was a folk show onboard the evening we overnighted. Our friends thought it was okay. DH and I opted to go to the theater for the folk show. It was about 2 hours long with an intermission. There were two sets of entertainers. We also experienced a Russian intermission which is different from a US intermission - there were finger snacks and free drinks, including Vodka and wine. We thought it was worth the added expense and energy.

The one we saw on the Ocean was ok, but not what I'd call stellar. I don't regret having gone seen it, but I do think if you can it's better to go to the excursion one. (That said, after a day of touring, the idea of spending several more hours out that night was quite frankly more than I think I could have taken.) I think I remember them explaining that the group that came on was part of a club that explores their heritage of dance and music, and aren't necessarily professionals (basically, it's not their day job). So they're enthusiastic, having fun, but aren't likely to win any awards. If you're not going to do an evening excursion, I'd definitely say it's worth the hour or so of time.
