Silhoutette 2D balcony question

We are considering a guarantee 2D balcony on the Silhouette. My question is how obstructed is it? I see from the deck plans that there are life boats on the deck below. Are you able to see over the top of the lifeboats while sitting down on your balcony? I appreciate I won't be able to see the water below but I like a view of the water on the horizon while sitting down.

Any pictures would be fantastic. Thanks so much.

In a 2-D, the top of the lifeboat/tender comes to the top railing of your balcony in most cases. Therefore if you are sitting down you will not be able to see the water. You may consider a 2C, in which the top of the lifeboat comes to the bottom of the balcony.

So, if you get a really good deal by booking a guarantee balcony -- I think I would grab it....but all really depends on how good the deal is. Keep in mind that the smoking section is on the port side midship so you may have smoke wafting up to your cabin balcony at any hour of the day / night.

As the other post mentioned, the obstruction can be up to your balcony railing -- but could also be fabulous with such little obstruction (6210 comes to mind). 2C might be a better choice but may be hundreds more. The obstruction only comes up to the floor of your balcony. It really all depends on how much value you place on the view from your balcony.

On S class ships, no cabin has any major obstruction. I have gladly booked gty and did not mind the partial obstruction. Deck 6 is the lowest deck with verandas. It is fine. You may get a higher level without any obstruction. When you book Gty, anything can happen. Don't hesitate booking. Do a search for photos of cabins. The money that you save can be major. I look for GTY cabin offers. Go and enjoy!

Not sure I would agree with the above poster about 'major' obstruction.

But about the gty...Two years ago, we had booked a 2C on silhouette. A week or so later, there was a sale, balcony gty for price of an inside. I went for it, knowing I could get a 2D, but it was worth the risk for a $1300 saving. We were assigned a 2A. EM

6210 is my favorite cabin within 2D - will take larger balcony mid ship over un obstructed small any day...
