Free upgrade question

Recommended Posts

How often are free upgrades given on Oasis of the Seas when it is 5 weeks until sailing? i received an email to upgrde my Large interior room to an OV or Balcony but the cost was $140 & $180 If I dont accept he offer, whats the chances that It will be offered again free? I asked the agent on the phone & she told me that sometimes they do it about 2 weeks out from sailing. Any comments appreciated. Thanks !

The upsell instead of a free upgrade seems to be their new business plan. I guess it depends on how much it is worth to you. I think if enough people take the paid upgrade, free ones will be in short supply. :)

I would not expect a free upgrade. I suspect that enough people will take the paid upgrade.

If that is $180 total for the cabin for a week's cruise on the Oasis........TAKE IT. Or someone else will.

We received a free upgrade only once, and that was many years ago....from a JS to a GS.....it was our 2nd cruise with RCI at the time.

We were not notified or informed it happened.

Flying out on a saturday morning for a sunday cruise, I checked online one last time friday night and there it was....a room change.

Quickly printed out a new set sail pass and luggage tags, and that was that.

From what I read, it does not happen too often......

BTW, we have booked a GS ever since....a Hotel Director once told me they know what they're doing when they determine upgrades such as this. There is a method and it's not based upon C&A status....although they would like you to think so.

Now it seems paying $$ for an upgrade at a discount is more the norm.

I believe that the "free upgrade fairy" has expired and the new "revenue up sell fairy" has emerged in her place. I think that C&A tiers are a secondary level for offering up sells..............the casino high rollers are on the top of the list............then other big spenders. Not a bad business plan for RCCL - maximizing profits is where it is - got to pay for all of those new ships that we all love.

We sailed on Allure of the Seas last Augurst 31st and were booked in a Grand Suite.

While waiting in the terminal to board, my hubby noticed that our set sail card had an incorrect cabin number on it.

Long story short, we had been upgraded to an Owners Suite. We were never notified...found out right before we boarded. Our luggage eventually found its way to our new cabin.

It was very exciting!
