I booked an inside on the Grand room L244 to be closer to outside decks, I found obstructed ocean view category OZ for $400 more total. What do you suggest is the best to choose? I would go balcony but that's a lot higher. Thanks.

Emerald deck all the way forward. Try and pick one with a view in between lifeboats. ;)

It says fully obstructed. The reason I booked the Lido inside was because the proximity to the outside deck. I'm just looking at the cost of the excursions I want to do, and spending $400 more is hard to swallow. Actually it's really $1000 more, but I just found a lower rate that makes it only $400 difference. I know we are a little less than a year away so maybe rates will lower. Thanks for your help.

Some cabins labeled fully obstructed are not very obstructed at all. I have had these, Emerald deck, on the Grand and the Diamond, and they were not very obstructed at all. Check out renmar's site for the specific cabin you're considering. His photos are quite accurate.

In general, if you have an Obstructed on Emerald deck by the bigger launches (usually towards the stern) you do not get a great view. The ones forward are over the smaller lifeboats & can have a decent view, especially if you are between lifeboats. Of course, these sell out fast.

I love the Lido deck for the same reason you booked your cabin there. Although we have never booked an inside cabin, the convenience for being outdoors is there. I also like the Emerald deck OV cabins because they, too, have a quick access to the outdoors (depending how close you are to the stairs.) Just one quick flight down and you can be outside on the promenade deck. Alaska tours are expensive. I'd save the $400 and put it toward a great excursion. You won't be spending much time inside your cabin in Alaska as there is just too much to see.
