We are planning on sailing inside and I was wondering if it's worth it to book guarantee cabin. I don't really mind about the position or deck, any chances of getting an upgrade since it's a new ship?

Forget about upgrades.

There is ONLY one answer to your question:

If you care AT ALL about cabin location do NOT book a guarantee. Long walks, excessive noise, crowded halls, no service...anything you think you might want come back here and complain about after your trip...if you are hoping for some magical upgrade after booking the cheapest closet on the ship...forget it.

If you care AT ALL about cabin location DO NOT book a guarantee.

Otherwise.... Go right ahead.

Follow the advice from NEGN. Best answer I've seen on this topic. And there have been lots of threads like this one.

I often book gty and really don't care at all about where we are on the ship. I've always been happy with our locations and saved lots of $$$$. To each their own. :)

You are the perfect person for a GTY. I've seen so so so many threads and posts from people who are complaining about there they ended up with a GTY. They didn't do their research or weren't honest with themselves about truly being willing to take any room in that category or above.

To the OP, do your researched thoroughly (I know it's a bit more difficulty with the Escape, but try looking at pics and reviews the Getaway or Breakaway category you are looking at). If there is even one room that you wouldn't want to get, then book a specific room, not a GTY

Worth How Much??

What is the dollar value?

I do book GTY a lot . I have receive the worst cabin in my GTY. Cat. TWICE .

One was directly over the night club dance floor.

The other shared a wall with a pump room that cycled with a thump and a shaking noise, all day and all night every 2o minutes.

But hay that is the deal.

Your still on a cruise no matter what cabin ,right. :D

I have had guarantees on NCL and based on my experience you will not get an upgrade but probably get a cabin that nobody wants.I am in a guarantee inside cabin on Escape TA (not by choice, that's all that was left when I booked with TA).

My assigned cabin is on 13th floor about as far forward as you can get and beside a grey space on the deck plan which could mean a storeroom, pantry, machine room or other noise making space!

I accept that a guarantee is a lottery but you don't win very often with NCL:)

Even upgrade can be to a cabin nobody wants - our first and last GTY booking was for a specific category (OA) so I foolishly thought that we'd be assigned to a midship oceanview with a picture window or if we got upgraded, we could only be upgraded to any balcony cabin or better (even the worst balcony cabin would have been better than an oceanview for us).

Unfortunately (probably just because of this) NCL has rated family cabins regardless of their location higher than any regular cabins, so we were upgraded to category O1 family cabin on low deck, pretty fwd under the casino, very close to the theatre.

We paid for an upgrade (it was a repo and a lot of full suites were heavily discounted about a month before the departure) and have never booked a GTY since.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention to OP: with NCL what you get assigned to is what you get, you can't change or complain about it unlike with some other cruise lines where you can change cabin within assigned category after assignment for free if there are available cabins. With NCL only way out is to pay for an upgrade and select a cabin in higher category.

I'm with you on this. Seems like 95% of the posts about guarantees are people complaining about what they got. Often a higher category but a location they didn't like. If you really look at the price difference between a guarantee and the next class within a category is like $20 pp.

We have been happy with our gtys so far. We did upgrade last year on the Epic to a higher gty for a small bit more, but even our first cabin was not terrible. The worst cabin we ever got we picked. We had to be moved because of terrible ship noise. So, seems like it can be a crap shoot no matter.
