bluemarble Posted August 9, 2015 #101 Share Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) I thought I read about some new build or soon to be built new Cruise Ship, one of those Gigantor ships of fun fun fun being run by Liquid Natural Gas. Anyone know?? I hadn't heard about this before, but I just did some research and found several references to Carnival planning to build four new cruise ships (two for AIDA and two for Costa) that will be powered by LNG. Here are a couple Cruise Critic news article about this. Four New Carnival Corp. Cruise Ships to Be World's Largest Costa Cruises to Launch 2 New Cruise Ships Regards, John. fg_hb Posted August 13, 2015 #102 Share Posted August 13, 2015 Today Cunard announced the new deck plans after the refit. The plans can be downloaded from http://www.cunard.co.uk/Documents/2015-2016%20deck%20plans/QM2-Deck-Plan-June2016.pdf Looks like that the panorama-elevators will be in service after the refit. Or maybe they haven't updated more than the cabin changes. The KC diagram still shows the glass floors, and they've been gone for ages. It would make sense to keep the glass elevators to just the two atrium decks. That would produce a little more space for KC and reduce the "just passing through" problems in KC. Rare BlueRiband Posted August 13, 2015 #104 Share Posted August 13, 2015 The deck 2/3/7 elevators did make sense when the glass floor was in place to provide a visual link to the Grand Lobby. Now, there's a complete disconnect when one travels from an elegant space to what appears to be a crew mess. But on second thought - if they are removed - having to use the B elevators would make it inconvenient for the mobility impared move between decks 2 and 3. That's why I'd reconfigure them to just serve 2 and 3, for people who can't use the "grand staircase." Probably more trouble than it's worth from Cunard's POV. Ray66 Posted August 15, 2015 #106 Share Posted August 15, 2015 The press release about the QM2 refit is now available on the U.S. web site (cunard.com). http://www.cunard.com/cunard-experience/media-centre/press-releases/cunard-flagship-queen-mary-2-to-undergo-major-refurbishment-in-early-summer-2016-befitting-the-worlds-most-iconic-ocean-liner-/ This page includes this diagram of the floor plan for the single staterooms. Regards, John According to the following link, the above is the floor plan of a single oceanview cabin on deck 3. The ones on deck 2 look like this: http://www.cunard.co.uk/cunard-experience/media-centre/press-releases/qm2-refit-2016/ (Apologies if already mentioned). Unfortunately the link you provided doesn't go to a page that discusses the QM2 refit here in the U.S. It just goes to the home page of "www.cunard.com" instead. The press release about the QM2 refit that we can see in the U.S. is shorter that the one on the UK web site and only includes the one single stateroom diagram I posted earlier. Thanks for providing that additional diagram included in the UK press release. Regards, John. Edited August 16, 2015 by bluemarble
Underwatr Posted August 16, 2015 #108 Share Posted August 16, 2015 Yeah, I'd imagine that the space available on Deck 3 would result in a wider & shallower room. They only have the photo gallery space to work with.

Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted August 17, 2015 #110 Share Posted August 17, 2015 If it helps find screen shots of the UK site Thanks for posting these. The page that shows both layouts isn't quite to scale, but close. The cabins in the casino look much smaller than the ones in the gallery. And I know this art isn't final, but don't the galleries currently have windows? The drawing shows 2 portholes.
Underwatr Posted August 17, 2015 #111 Share Posted August 17, 2015 If I remember correctly, the windows not the gallery are round but much larger than a porthole.
cunarderdiamond7 Posted January 6, 2016 #112 Share Posted January 6, 2016 I just received a Cunard email about the July 1-6 Independence Day voyage and was extremely happy to see the Verandah Restaurant which confirms that the Godawful Todd English has finally been given the boot
JollyJackTar52 Posted January 27, 2016 #113 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Post Refit Deckplans are here. http://www.cunard.co.uk/Documents/2016-2017-deck-plans/QM2%20Deck%20Plans%20for%20Web.pdf Now with "Corinthia Lounge", "Verandah" labels in their correct places. Also worthy of note:- Glass Lifts in The Grand Lobby / Kings Court are gone - which we kind of knew Sports Centre's new location is shown. It's now by the steps as you go up to Deck 13 from the Pavilion Pool - Might be a bit windy unless there will be more structural changes up there? Veuve Cliquot Champagne Bar is now just labelled "Champagne Bar"

JollyJackTar52 Posted January 27, 2016 #115 Share Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) Also just noted that the lookout is labelled as "Deck 14" now. I seem to remember Stephen Payne being disappointed that passengers couldn't see the ships Bow from there? "Deck 14" would indicate that it's on top of Deck 13? It wasn't labelled like that previously? Edited January 27, 2016 by JollyJackTar52
Lakesregion Posted January 27, 2016 #116 Share Posted January 27, 2016 After being bombarded on a daily basis with promotions for upgrades from steerage to the Grills one begins to lose any sense of what was originally meant to be a special place for those who lived like that at home and would not travel in lesser accommodation. Now the Grills are ho hum. And if the new redo is accurate, the Princess Grill dining room has it hands down over the Queens Grill in décor. Much warmer and traditional as an ultra first class dining room should be.
Rare eroller Posted January 28, 2016 #117 Share Posted January 28, 2016 Thanks for the update on the deck plans. I do wish they would make them a bit more accurate. It seems like they made the absolute minimal changes necessary to reflect the changes but the reality will actually be more substantial. For instance the cafe bar in the new Carinthia Lounge is not shown nor the new service buffets in the King's Court. I'm sure there will be several other arrangement changes in real life not reflected on the deck plan.

ILoveSun99 Posted January 28, 2016 #119 Share Posted January 28, 2016 I have been looking at the Pre & Post QM2 Refit deck plans and noticed that in addition to adding 30 cabins to deck 13 they moved 5 inside cabins from deck 12 to deck 13.
FennoExpress Posted January 31, 2016 #120 Share Posted January 31, 2016 Do you think the port side Deck 3L will still be available as a thoroughfare to the Queen's Room or will all traffic be routed to the starboard side? The refit would be a good chance to ban smoking in the Chruchill's and find some new use for that room. The constant reek of cigar smoke makes half of the CC an unpleasant place to be, and here speaks an ex-smoker  Shame about the loss of glass lifts, they were handy when going from steerage cabins on Deck 8 to Britannia. FennoExpress Posted February 2, 2016 #123 Share Posted February 2, 2016 The glass lifts use for Kings Court never went to deck 8:confused: No they didn't, but were a handy express shuttle when trecking back from Queen's Room or Royal Court and having a night snack on the way at KC:) Then just a short walk to cabins on Deck 8 forward. DDBINK1 Posted February 3, 2016 #124 Share Posted February 3, 2016 I was thinking about the refit changes and thought of something that might make a bit of a difference that was not included. It would be a benefit to add a laundry to each deck. I think they are located on every other deck right now. Correct me if I am wrong. I hope this doesn't stray too far form the topic. Just my sudden thought tonight .
