We are on The Allure in Aug.

We want to tick the box of seeing the leaning tower- my daughter is 6 so aware she won't be able to climb it.

Is it worth going to get the photo?

Or is there a beach close to the port that we could explore?

Any advice/options would be appreciated

We on the same cruise as you.

We was looking at this last night, think at the moment due to distance form the port to Pisa, we might be doing a ships tour and visit there.

It's about a twenty minute train ride. . .and an easy stop on your way to or from Florence

We thinking of getting the train from La Spezia to Pisa. (58 mins)

Then getting train back and going to Monterosso beach.

Just attempting to find out if we need to go back to La Spezia first or if we can get a train from Pisa to Monterosso beach.

OR we might leave Pisa and do a boat tour past the villages to Monterosso.

We tried to add you to message you.

Let us know what you find , as the cost of the ship tour is more

You could go to Pisa and get a photo.

No need to climb it.

Then return to the Port of Livorno and go to the beach there.

It's not too far from the port.

You need to be aware that these replies are assuming you are calling in Livorno when the Allure actually stops in La Spezia which is further away - a train from Livorno to Pisa takes 20 minutes but takes more than an hour from La Spezia. The station is a 20 minute walk from the port

A train from Pisa to Monterosso would probably require a change and would mean you would be travelling back past La Spezia - if you look on google maps you will see what I mean. If you have your heart set on Pisa AND a beach it will invevitably involve a lot of travelling.

For train times take a look at the Trenitalia website which can be viewed in English here http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en

Thanks...after an afternoon of research we think we are going to get the ferry up Cinque terre- get off at Montissere and hang out at the beach.

Get the ferry or train back.

That sounds like an excellent plan. We've done all the Cinque Terre towns by train in the past, including a 2 hour hike when we were on Allure last month and caught the ferry which was a lovely way to see the towns.

You can buy the ferry tickets from the cruise terminal building which saves having to stand in the disorganised queue at the ferry terminal. It will be quicker to get the train back and the trains are a lot more frequent than the ferries, which can also be cancelled if the tides turn rougher.

VERY good point. I had no idea where the Allure docked, just assumed it was Livorno since that's the port most people go to Pisa from. I regret the error. And it also helps if posters specify which port they are trying to get from or to!!
