another OBC question please

 Share

Recommended Posts

We have 400.00 OBC for out stateroom and when I ordered it, I just put it in my name.

Never thought anything about it until the latest OBC questions. Now I am wondering If my husband orders a drink and swipes his seapass card would he have a seperate bill than me and could we just combine that 400.00 for both of us.

Or do I have to change something when I get onboard

you each have a folio number so the OBC will only show up on your card. When you board, both of you go to Guest Services and tell them you want $200 of your OBC transferred to your husbands card. They will gladly do that. Just remember that BOTH of you have to Guest Services together, they will not mess with someone else's account even if its to give money. Of course, if you want to keep tabs on your husband you can give him less! :D

When I travel with my family I designate my cc as the one to charge and that I will pay for others. You do this when you fill out your setsail pass online. Then all of the charges your husband makes will go on your bill.

When you look at your daily charges on the tv, you will see he made a charge on his folio number. Then it will be credited on his and charged to your folio number. So you have one bill at the end, which your obc will cover.

I didn't think about that either. What if the other person in the stateroom is a child? Royal gave her $500 of our on board credit under her name separately from what I have under my name (that's how it's listed on our invoice/receipt anyway). I was planning to take money out at the casino to get the majority of our obc as cash, but will I be able to do that with her $500? Half of that will go towards her tips and drinks but the rest I want to make sure we get back (it's non-refundable so it won't be returned to my credit card at the end, it will be lost).

Marci, that is what I was going to do but then read on here that I should have my account designated as cash and not cc because I would like to get back any leftover money ( if we have any) in cash at the end not to be put back on my CC.

Can id still give them a CC card when I board and have that done. do you know.

thanks

If you secure your account with a credit card, then they will charge you 5% to get cash against your account at the casino.

If you opt for a cash account, you can still pay at the end with a credit card, and you won't get charged the 5% to get cash at the casino. The downside is that you will have to go to Guest Services on the last evening and pay with your credit card.

Hey Bob, do you know if this is a new rule? Because on my trip in 2013 I was only able to get $200 in cash per day from the casino and they did charge me, even though I had a cash account and didn't give them my card. Also, do you know if I can take out more than $200 per day now? And how can I take out the money that is designated as my underage daughter's obc? They gave her $500 and there's no way I'm letting her spend that much. It won't be refunded at the end because it's non refundable.

It's not a new rule, but I have read that sometimes they "forget" to check for a cash account and you have to remind them.

If your daughter's online account is connected to yours, then her OBC will go to you too. If you want to have separate accounts, then you can go to Guest Services and move part of all of her OBC to your account.

Ok thank you! I'll be sure to check this time around To make sure they don't charge me. I just looked at my old paper invoice to make sure I was remembering correctly and it looks like they charged me 3% instead of 5%. And it does say "you are on a cash account bla bla bla please come down to settle your account if you have a balance due etc." It wasn't a huge charge last time, but this time it will be around $50 and if I can avoid paying that I'd prefer not to. However I could just chalk it up to something similar to an ATM fee for the convenience of having the cash off the ship, and that would be ok too. And I. Wanted to make sure I would to lose the $500 under my daughters name, so thanks for clarifying

Whatever you do, I would suggest that you check your account a few days into the cruise to make sure that things are being charged the way you want. (you may not see anything the first couple of days)

And of course definitely review your bill the day before you leave. Even if you do everything correctly, mistakes can be made, and it is easier to take care of it onboard rather than at home.

I am sorry but I am still not fully understanding.

To clarify we will not be using the casino.

If by chance we do , we will just carry cash for that.

Now, if I do not give them a CC and I want to settle my account around mid afternoon on last day, does that mean that I will not be able to order any drinks after that time.

I do not want to have to settle too late and have long line-ups or is that just an exageration and not really too bad.

If you have a cash account, it will be closed when you settle on the last day.

You get cash at the casino in order to obtain any excess non-refundable OBC on your account.

My invoice from my last cruise says "...before 8am" on the last day. So you can do it anytime as long as the balance is paid by 8am on your debarkation day. Also, it's been mentioned already but since I'm the one that brought up the casino thing, I wanted to clarify that going to the casino using obc in this case was to withdraw money against your on board credit, not to actually gamble (although you can actually gamble with it if you want). Basically if you have on board credit, you can go to the casino and ask for cash in order to "buy chips" and then just keep the cash and not buy any chips. The service to get the cash is there for the purpose of buying chips but you don't actually have to buy chips or gamble with the money...you can just keep it and use it in the ports, give extra tips or take it home with you :)

what are you guys doing to get $500 in OBC? I got excited with my $200!

Ha! $200 is a good amount of on board credit, don't feel bad :) Mine came from a variety of places, about $500 or so was from a price drop that happened after I paid for my trip. You can call and request a refund of your original payment for on board credit in the amount of the price drop. At the time I didn't have other on board credit so I took that option. I was also given a small amount (around $50 each) for a problem I had with my booking and my charges that took royal around 2 months to fix. Then i received a gift certificate as a gift which is the rest of it. I'd already paid my cruise balance in full, so the gc can be used to purchase on board credit. Unfortunately gift certificates are non refundable so if we don't use it all, Royal keeps it, even though someone else already gave them money for it!!! That part sucks because they're basically forcing you to spend all the money or taking it from you without giving a refund to the purchaser or the cruiser. That's why I'm so intent on getting the money from the casino in the form of cash, because it's a lot of money to just give away to Royal because I chose not to spend $1000 on the ship. Which I won't do because I don't drink much and I don't pay extra for restaurants, but I will definitely use it towards another cruise!
