Balcony smoking complaint = free cruise?

Was in line at the lido buffet on the last sea day of my cruise last week, and this miserable old hen was claiming that Carnival reuses to do anything about balcony smoking. In fact it was so bad that they were giving her a free Cruise as compensation.

Or so she claims. I'm calling it baloney... agree?

I'd say her claim about being compensated with a free cruise is B.S. If Carnival compensated every passenger that had a complaint about something by giving a free cruise, Carnival would lose a lot of money. Even though smoking on the balconies has been banned, it's kind of tough to enforce. There is no walkway along the outside of the ship where a security person could walk along looking for violators. And if you've got cabins above, below, and on either side of you, how can you pinpoint exactly where the smoke is coming from? If you happen to have a cabin that is directly below the designated smoking area on the ship, then the smoke wouldn't necessarily be coming from someone's balcony anyhow.

This is as suspicious to me as someone getting a free cruise because they complained.

I can see them booting someone off for multiple infractions. After reading some of the comments from a few people who will "be damned if I'm going to let them tell me I can't smoke on my balcony" and, "I'll gladly pay the $250 and continue to smoke", I absolutely believe, and would hope, that those people would get the boot. Of course mstabbykats could be correct: they might have evoked the guarantee, thinking that it would cost Carnival more than $250 to send everyone home, or back to the port of embarkation.

But a poster in this message board said she figured out a way to get free cruise. And her recent 4 or 5 cruises were all free. Wondering if it is the same hen.

You don't think Carnival has a tracking system that follows cruisers in this day and age of computers? Why would they reward someone for being a constant "complainer". And you don't think people lie on these boards day in and day out just to get their daily jollies, or to yank someone's chain?

If I believed everything written on these boards I think I'd be committed to the nearest looney bin by my concerned relatives.

not sure about getting a free cruise, but i know that on our last cruise our neighbors got booted off in the first port for not following the non smoking rule

sorry, just do not believe this story, there is no way CCL would kick you off a ship for smoking, even weed, which we have smelled on CCL ships as well.

Today no, you're not going to get kicked off but years ago when the Paradise was a no smoking ship you were not so lucky. You signed a contract which including getting kicked off at the next port along with a fine. We personally saw it happen to a elderly guy.

Maybe she was saying it like "They're giving me a free cruise" when I go complain and fight with them.

No way otherwise.

I was on Pride in March and a guy was threatened with being kicked off at next port. He got one warning, told to pay $250 for 2nd infraction which he denied. Steward kept reporting him--his cabin smelled of smoke, he said it's in his clothes, they finally agreed. That's when he got the letter telling him he'd get put off.

Well, I do believe everything written on these boards. So I believe your post too. But you told me not to believe everything written on these boards. So I will not believe what you said...:p

I wish they would move all smoking areas to the open decks. Can't enjoy the casino because of all the smokers hanging out at the bar, smoking the entire cruise and never spending a dime in the casino...
