We booked some excursions before we boarded, but the rest we booked on the ship. We generally spend between $450-$700. We look every few days to be sure we are on track. I budget $1,500 for our expenses and have never come close to hitting that.

Just curious on how much your average S&S bill at the end of any given cruise was? I was thinking about this as when I was closing out my account on The Allure of the Seas a few years back, the lady in front of me was going crazy about her account final statement, it was $5300!

I felt for the lady helping her as she was under pressure from the start, she printed out her tab and when I was finished with my account, it was still printing, 10+ pages! Normally I would not even care but she was so loud in her protests that they finally took her to an office in attempt keep things down as everyone was aware of her issue.

Our last cruise tab was around 1K if I remember right, that was for several shore excursions etc.....

I have had it as high as 4300 cuz of the casino and and low them giving me 84.00 back as I had lots of OBC and fun ship dollars

My last one was around $1,000. It was pretty much what we planned. $5300 wow!

For a week's cruise, about less than two hundred which was for gratuities and some drinks for two of us. We usually book off cruise line for excursions and included onboard credits. I have vacation saving accounts that I use for trips.

Alot of people may do this. But when I cruise.. of course I have a Major CC on file to begin with but usually for 7 to 8 day cruises I bring around 3,000$ cash. With 2 envelopes. Starting/current bankroll and one for tabs/bills. Since its all done with ur S & card if I happen to buy 50$ of bingo cards. I'll take 50$ out of bankroll envelope and put it in the tabs envelope so at the end if the week when my bill is around 1800 2000 I have the cash right in the envelope to pay the tab. Some cruises if I'm low on casino money last night I'll take a few hundred out of the tab envelope and still have cash to pay 90% of the bill when closing my account. Seems to work charms b/c worse comes to worse and u need cash u technically can just charge your CC and use the money u "spent". That lady should have atleast put some cash to the side

I had budgeted to spend $200 onboard for 2 of us. We had prepaid our shore excursions so I figured with the gratuities and 1 or 2 other little things $200 would be plenty!!

Lol, our bill was around $750, and neither of us drink! I couldn't believe how it all added up so fast! We played bingo only once, only put $10 in a slot machine once but we did buy TONS of pictures and I bought my daughter a bracelet (cheap crap- on sale for $19.99 regularly $79!!) we visited the cherry on top store a few times and bought some walkie talkies (bad idea!! They were too noisy) and Internet. Somehow it all added up to $750! I thought I was being pretty careful too! Oh well....we had a blast!!

For a 7-8 day cruise, usually around 600-700. This would include tips, drinks, casino, maybe a couple of t-shirts, maybe a photo, maybe an excursion -- but usually we do these privately -- only if we can't decide on one before we leave home and we see one at the last minute.

For the two of us, we were at about $400ish for our last 7 day cruise. We could have spent a LOT more, but we are mindful of what we change.

I really have to wonder when I hear stories about people who's bills are that high and don't know.

Like do you they have kids who charge as well and they didn't know how much their kids were charging? I mean she's an adult, how can an adult mindlessly charge and not think 'wow I've charged a lot today, wonder how much this is gonna cost?' I mean seriously people... things do cost money!

Wow, totally surprised on how some of you cruise for under $100....

To those who bought Cheers, how did you budget that, I am a hardliner in prepaying as much as I can, I do not like the CC shock in the end. A BIG part of our S&S tab is the adult beverages, we do like to par-take of them as we are on vacation and is something we do not at home. We are booked on a 11 day cruise and that adds up for the program, just curious 15 drinks in a 12 hour period is ALOT, I am wondering if it really is a $$ saver?

ANd to those who are under $100, wow............

Ran up a S&S bill of almost $800 that's when I was gambling badly... Don't drink much... Sons spent $200 @ the arcade in 1 night on the NCL Epic they worked it off when we got home

I'm with Raiders fan. We are on an eleven day cruise and are getting the Cheers program at about $1100. Obviously, the people who have $100 bills are not drinkers. The total might be $1500 and we will use Capital One and get 3000 miles for our next flight. You only have to drink about 6-7 drinks a day to come out even.

Our last 8 day cruise I think we came in around $750 for the two us? Excursions were paid for prior to the cruise, we're moderate drinkers, I'm a moderate gambler, we did eat at the steakhouse one night. Didn't buy any pics, a couple small souvenirs, I think that was it...

My husband takes excellent photographs and asks strangers to take our family shots, in exchange for him doing the same. He doesn't drink alcohol, and I am an occasional, lightweight drinker who is content with one or two drinks per cruise. I love the food I already paid for -- getting appetizers, steak or seafood, and dessert is a huge luxury. Gambling and bingo to me are expensive forms of torture. I couldn't relax at a spa with high prices. I hate to shop, and we pick up a few cheap souvenirs in ports. Our kids are not given charging privileges and don't care because there's so much included food and fun. But some people think we're extravagant because we go on cruises and multiple vacations per year.

We prepay tips, use cash to gamble and book private excursions. Any OBC is used for specialty dining and booze. Rarely more than $300 due end of cruise

Was really nice last cruise (celebrity) to only spend $1800 for a sweet sixteen balcony & have tips, OBC & drinks included to point where I took money out at the casino last night of cruise!

Figure with next cruise being 11 days and covering super bowl and Mardi Gras I better budget a bit more for booze. With so many port days I can't make CCLs beverage plan work for us

I've only been on one Carnival cruise. It was in January of 2013 and it was a gift from a couple of dear friends, which included the cruise and a plane ticket to Ft. Lauderdale.

During my cruise, I visited the casino regularly and always dropped my winnings back onto my S&S card. When I left the ship for different ports, I would get cash for food, drinks, souvenirs, and whatnot, and anything left over was immediately put back on to my S&S card.

I didn't purchase the Cheers Program, but I pretty much maintained a good, relaxed buzz all week and ended up having the time of my life. I had no idea the kind of money I was spending that week. I didn't keep track one time. I just kept doing the same thing every day.

You know how you always say, "Yea, I'm not drinking the last night of the cruise so I can be alert and get through the day traveling home tomorrow"? Yea, I said the same thing, but I ended up drinking with new friends and having a great night. When I woke up the morning of debarkation, I was a tad bit nervous that I had got out of control that last night, and when the bill was slid under my door, I was almost nauseous thinking of how bad it could be.

When I opened my statement, this is what I saw:

Needless to say, I don't expect to have that kind of luck again. My next cruise is in February, and of course I will try to repeat history, but it is unlikely, for sure.

So, are you saying you placed all your winnings on your card? Hmmmm, I don't win in the casino, so that wouldn't work for me?

Our last cruise was 7 days and our final S&S bill was about $325. We booked our excursions online prior to leaving. We paid cash for the non Carnival excursions and paid for the one Carnival excursion prior to leaving. If we would have rolled all of that into the S&S it would have been around $800.

For two of us, typically between $500 and $600, including excursions (or a spa treatment). Lately, we've been pre-booking our excursions, so our onboard account balance has been lower. We carry on a 12-pack of canned soda and two bottles of wine. We're not big drinkers.

Some cruise ships won't let you bring on alcohol. There is a cork surcharge, which I refuse to pay.

I usually cruise on Carnival. I purchased the drink package the one time I sailed on Royal, so no wine was carried on. You don't have to pay a corkage fee if you pour the glass of wine in your room and then carry it to dinner, which is what I do.

I work on $100 per day..it generally works out. But all the ports for our next cruise are pretty expensive...so already spent 2000 on tours for two of us.

Yikes! Is this for an Alaskan cruise tour?

ALWAYS under $400 for a family of four on 7 day cruises. Wife is allergic to alcohol (seriously) & I am a light drinker so we spend less in alcohol than my kids do in sodas. We take TERRIBLE pictures and generally book our excursions directly with the tour operators.
