halavah Posted August 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2015 Going to Caribbean in January. Critic reviews are mixed for both ships. Carnival has more port visitations. Celebrity more sea days. Both 10 nights. How is food, entertainment etc for each ship? We are 4 seniors but young at heart and body. Celebrity more money than Carnival but we don't cruise that frequently and want the best for our expenditures
Sixtytwo Posted August 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2015 You will find that your question will be very subjective with little quantitative information to base a decision on! Both lines are good and it will really depend on what you think will be the best for you. I would compare the two itineraries and decide which sounded better and go with that. Not very scientific, but a cruise is not what others think, but what you make it to be! Read the reviews but remember not everyone likes vanilla ice cream and not everyone likes strawberry ice cream! It will be a personal thing. [emoji6]
SantaFeFan Posted August 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) There is a very similar thread from a day or two ago. You might find some answers there to be of interest: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2245293 On that thread I shared my comparison: Carnival - keg party Celebrity - cocktail party Celebrity will be much more elegant, less gaudy, and more refined. Carnival will be livelier, more Las Vegas glitz, with more kids and young people. Equinox is a beautiful ship. Not in-your-face loud decor like Carnival. but more of modern upscale hotel look and feel. Some like it one way, some the other. Only you can decide which is more your style. Celebrity more money than Carnival but we don't cruise that frequently and want the best for our expenditures This would have been my answer anyways, but mainly because of what I highlighted in your post, I recommend Equinox. Celebrity Solstice Class ships are amazing. They're some of my favorite ships at sea.....far better than the hideous design of the Carnival Glory. Plus Celebrity has a reputation of having some of the best food of the mass market cruise lines. Just Google Image search each ship. You'll see the difference. cruiserking Posted August 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Without question Celebrity Equinox is the ship I would recommend. The Solstice Class ships are truly elegant, traditional and beautifully decorated. Have a look at the Equinox ship tour here: The Carnival Glory is much more casual and rowdy the polar opposite of the Equinox. Here's a brief tour of the Glory. Sea days are very relaxing, you can choose from the myriad of on board events like glass blowing workshops on the Equinox or reading a book in a quiet corner. Have a great cruise. Rare Keith1010 Posted August 12, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Celebrity will offer a much more premium experience than Carnival. I would think of the Celebrity ship as a Hyatt and the Carnival ship as a Holiday Inn if they were land based hotels. Keith
Bonnie J. Posted August 12, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Celebrity is more of a country club cruise, more formal than Carnival. A friend was turned away from the dining room one night because he wasn't wearing a jacket. (He went and put one on.) I have seen shorts on formal nights- which they now call 'cruise elegant'- on Carnival. There are more younger passengers on Carnival. So, I'd recommend Celebrity. (We are about to go on our 67th Carnival cruise! But have also been on Celebrity.)
bplazo Posted August 12, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 12, 2015 I give the Equinox a 10 plus. I prefer quiet without a lot of families.
halavah Posted August 12, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted August 12, 2015 since you have been on a lot of Carnival cruises. What is your take on the food and many have said that the buffet lines are very long and crowded. Also that the casino is smoke filled. We are considering the Glory if you have been on same. thanks
mafig Posted August 12, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) Celebrity. Although since it is a 10 day cruise, Carnival may have less kids, but I, personally, would not take the chance. I still remember the loud screaming in the halls at 3 am on our last Carnival cruise. Also the horrible people ext door. .... throwing cigarette buts overboard, spitting overboard, having their many children (who were in inside rooms, I guess) visit them on their balconies. Screaming from the balcony to whoever was inside. As you can tell, Carnival really made an impression on me. Not a good one. OK, rant over. As I first said .... Celebrity.:) Edited August 12, 2015 by mafig
