How can you maximize your fun on the Getaway!

I would like to know what you can do to have the most fun on the Getaway! This is without hiding away in the Haven or Vibe area. I am a social person and so are the 6 other people I am going with that is why we are doing this cruise together. I look all over CC and all I see are threads about do I have to pay the $10 up charge for the UDP up charge items, or DSC, the CEO, nickle and dime, cutbacks, smoke, kids, pool chairs,. So I just figure I would straight out ask maybe I would get good honest answers and great ideas without sifting through all the doom and gloom.

Lots of FREE activities everyday listed in The Freestyle Daily. Try the Ropes Course, Walk the Plank, any of the waterslides.

The Getaway has something for everyone. Even if you do nothing but find a bar stool and people watch.

Have a great time.

The same way that you'd maximize your fun on any other cruise ship ... or anywhere for that matter. :)

Go with a good attitude (is probably the best philosophy no matter where you are or what you're doing). There are plenty of fun "things" to do .... the rope course, the water slides, etc. There are lots of activities and events that the cruise directors staff put on ... everyone seems to love those.

The atrium area always has events going on and is always hopping. The various bars/lounges are nice and are usually pretty fun. All the shows (Howl at the Moon, Headliners, etc.) get good crowds and are a good time.

Having said all that ... still think the main thing is to have a good attitude ... since you're with 5 others (and if they have the same attitude), don't think there's any way you couldn't have a good time on this ship.

PS. you can start by ignoring the "doom and gloom". if you can't take it with s grain of salt ... just don't read it!

The Getaway is absolutely fantastic! So many things to do and just not enough time to do it. First off.....you are already going with friends so no matter what you do it's gonna be fun.

They have rope course, water slides, so many different free as well as pay restaurants that your group will enjoy. Also, the entertainment is spectacular from Burn the Floor to Illusionarium (dinner magic show).

We had access to the spa thermal area which was very relaxing and a place to get away from the crowded pool spots.

Our party did bingo and was in the casino on fairly most nights. We always had something to do or nothing to do (relaxing on my balcony).

Yes, I agree there's too many threads about the negatives and rumors. I hope you and party have a GREAT time! We surely did.

We were not in the Havens and we didn't purchase Vibe. We now have 2 future cruises on the new Escape bc of the superior time on the Getaway!

Happy Cruising!

This might sound odd but for me I make time to take a nap every day. That way I can rest up because I'm on vacation and it refreshes me for nightly activities. I used to make the mistake of trying to do everything that was offered on the large ships. No more. :D

You must go to the sugarcane bar on the waterfront and let that awesome bartender (don't remember name) make you a mojito. The best I've tasted on sea.

Bong used to be there, along with Lorelie and the chocolate cowboy on the waterfront, outside the Mojito bar. all three are great folks. You can do a mojito tasting too. Bong is moving to the Escape, and on vacation now though. I would also highly recommend the Wine Lovers the musical. It's at lunch time a couple of days in Illusionairium. It does cost 25 bucks, but the wine and the show are well worth it.

My reasoning on no haven or vibe is with the group I hang with won't want to be there most of the time . If it were just me and dw I might but not after dinner

The Getaway is great, If you are doing excursions I highly recommend the Escape to Jost Van Dyke on the Rebbel yell. Was a great time, it is very beautiful there.

I think this is my 4 th time on that island and never got to go to jost. I always get over ruled . Maybe this time I will get to hang at the soggy dollar bar

Hang out at bars and you will meet people for sure! Also I always meet fun people in the casino! I too like to be social and never purchase spa or vibe passes because I like the noise and action on the pool deck!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Getaway. It was our favorite cruise but they may change after spring break on the Escape. Getaway has something for everyone at every turn. Aside from the ropes course and water slides, which were fabulous, we enjoyed little things A LOT. Spent a ridiculous amount of money on bowling and air hockey by OSheehans, loved watching the "shows" in the atrium from above, Noodle bar....amazing afternoon snack. We thought the show at the Illusionarium was excellent and dinner tasty. The Wine lunch, if they still do it?, great laughs!

Like you, I don't get caught up in the gratuity crisis, changes, etc. It is what it is and I have zero control over it. Just enjoy the experience!!

I have little to add to the good advice/ suggestions already posted. Except there is lots to do read the sheet they leave in your cabin the night before and pick out your must dos and off you go . We found the duelling pianos and the atmosphere in that bar great fun and often finished the night off in there.

There are lots of ways to maximize your fun and enjoyment.

90 percent of it comes down to your attitude. If you are determined to enjoy yourself then you will. Why spend money on a vacation only to be miserable?

The other 10 percent is participation... There are lots and lots of free things to do that can be very fun and entertaining... Some people enjoy trivia contests, there's the ever popular THIS or THAT contests, all sorts of great musical opportunities from the Grammy Experience and other live performers, karaoke, band-aoke too, pool games, sports, and the list goes on and on!

Your freestyle daily is your best bet to seek out great things to do and on Getaway, there is no shortage of things to do at any given moment!

We loved the slides, ropes and rock wall. If you have any fear about any of those, I recommend trying it early in the cruise. I had a "false start" on the ropes course on our first sea day. It was so windy I just didn't like the feeling. Couldn't bring myself to take that first step onto the course and I am not at all afraid of heights or adventures. If there was a practice area for getting the feel of the harness a(s we've encountered on land based ropes courses, it would have helped). Reality told me I was perfectly safe, but the feeling of blowing and swaying in the middle of the ocean was just too much! We did it again in port in Nassau and after the first couple of ropes, I was loving it!! Wish I had convinced myself to conquer it earlier in the week so I could have done it more than once. If you are willing to stay on board in a port, perhaps one you have already been to, there were no lines for anything. We skipped the gym that day as we walked up the stairs to the slides so many times it was a workout in itself! Between that and the ropes, we got in our exercise that day.

We also really enjoyed hanging out at Howl at the Moon every night it was available. So much fun!

Enjoy your cruise, you will love the Getaway!

I second the howl at the moon - it simply is a must for the days it is offered!
