CAN$35 fixed rate, plus tip. You can definitely pay with US credit cards and, while they are not *required* to accept US dollars so no 100% guarantee can be made, most cabbies will also accept US cash at a crappy exchange rate, with change given in Canadian.

There are ATM machines at the airport and also places to exchange money. Please get Canadian money from one of them and pay in the proper currency. Would you want to accept foriegn currency from someone for your services and then have to go through the hassle of banking it or using it. ait only takes a few minutes to save the taxi driver many minutes of extra work.

We have been doing this for many years and have never encountered any taxi driver who would not accept US dollars.

The taxi drivers who go to/from the airport are very accustomed to being paid in US dollars.

Taking into account the current exchange rate each time, we round up to include the tip and so we do not receive any change in Canadian money, whether we pay with cash or credit card.

For example, on a $35 Canadian taxi ride, the driver is very happy to receive $40 US, which provides a nice tip, considering the current exchange rate.

(Even if someone only paid $35 in US dollars, that would still include a tip.)

The same for hotels and restaurants in the tourist areas, where they are also very willing and accustomed to accepting $US.

So when we are only staying in Vancouver for a night or two before a cruise, we don't bother to exchange any money because it is not necessary.

You can even buy train tickets from a machine with a credit card.

When vacationing in Canada for any longer than that however, we do get Canadian money, especially when we travel to areas outside the city.
